HOMEWORK
Homework will be assigned on most days. Late homework turned in the day
after it is due will receive 80% of the earned grade. Late work turned in
beyond that point will be assigned at the discretion of the teacher.
An assignment with no name will be graded but will receive no credit. Please
make sure that you put your name on ALL of your papers!
Parents are key to making homework a positive experience for their
children. I ask that parents make homework a top priority. Parents should
provide the necessary supplies, a quiet homework environment, a daily
homework time, praise and support. Please contact me if you notice a problem.
Parents can find out what work has been assigned each day by checking this
web site. Approximately 2 hours of homework will be assigned each day in 6th
grade. Every student is required to record their assignments and due dates in
his/her Student Planner each period. A list of homework assignments and due
dates will be posted in the classroom and on each teacher’s web site for
later reference. All assignments are due the following day unless otherwise
noted. No late assignments will be accepted for full credit. All assignments
must be turned in; students should have no missing work. Assignments must be
completed before students arrive at school and be turned in at the beginning
of each period. In the event of illness, parents may call the office
before 9:00 am to request homework after the second day of absence. The work
will be in the office for your child after school that day. Missed work must
be returned to the teacher in a timely manner.
ABSENCE FROM CLASS
It is the student's responsibility to make arrangements to make-up any
work that is missed during an excused absence. I give students a day for a
day grace period to submit make up work when they have an excused absence.
For example, if you are sick for two days, when you return to school, you
should arrange to meet with me before school, during lunch, during brunch,
after school or during a 'quiet time' during class to obtain the material
that you have missed. You will have two more days to complete that work and
turn it in to me for credit. If you are out for more than 3 days, you may
contact the office and request homework form the school for all of your
classes. Please note that most of your teachers (especially me) will have
the work we do posted on this website. So you may get the work that you miss,
while you are out, via the internet.
If your absence is unexcused. I expect that you will make up the work
that you missed, I will correct it, but because your absence is unexcused, it
will recieve no credit.
TEACHER SUPPORT
Various concepts can take extra time to master. I am glad to provide
tutorials as an opportunity to meet with students individually as the need
arises. Tutorials are available by appointment only during brunch, lunch, and
before and after school depending on the teacher's schedule. Success in
school, like many things in life, requires consistent daily effort. It is
most important that students ask for help whenever they need it – either from
other students in the class, their parents or their teacher. If you have any
questions or concerns, please feel free to call or e-mail.
Please remember that middle school children still need the guidance and
support that they have been receiving at home during the elementary school
years. More importantly, since every 6th grader is starting the year at a new
school, your child may be distracted by the new surroundings and new
friendships, and so he/she may need you to be even more involved than you
were last year.
