Hello D. W. Long Families,

We want to officially welcome you to the start of the new school year. We are fortunate to partner with you and the PTO to make our school an amazing learning atmosphere for students. We want to thank each of you for the features we are adding to our school thanks to your commitment to PTO. As you walk down our main hallway, you will notice a wonderful mural that reflects our 3 core expectations for our Rangers: Respect, Responsibility, and Cooperation. It is our belief that our Rangers need to demonstrate these throughout the campus to be successful scholars. Additionally, we will be adding additional picnic tables for outdoors seating for lunches during nice weather days and parent engagement events such as our VIP lunch. Our goal is to make Long Elementary School one of your child’s favorite places to be!

Teachers have been here throughout the summer and weekends preparing their classrooms and collaborating with each other to design engaging lessons to challenge and prepare our Rangers. We ask for your partnership with us by ensuring that your child develops a strong attendance habit. To further build this habit, we are partnering with PTO for our attendance BBQs for the classes with the best attendance throughout portions of the school year. Another important commitment we ask for your support with is taking the time to read with your child daily. Reading impacts all subjects. The more that your child develops this skill the greater the impact on their academics.

Our school district’s theme for the school year is Power To Be Your Best. At DW Long, we have taken on the Superhero powers to help ensure our students achieve their best in the classroom and on the playground. We truly believe in each child’s academic, social, and emotional development. Throughout the school year, look for the different opportunities that your child can stay engaged in school. Additionally, there will be opportunities for our 1st-5th grade students to be engaged in our BRAVO Program after school. We look forward to serving your child this year as we continue to develop students that Learn Today to Lead Tomorrow.

Our school is piloting a new school to home communication tool called Loop connected to your parent portal account. This new tool allows us to record auto-dialer messages and send emails and texts. You may have already received some calls or emails and want to know how to customize your contact preferences.

Parents can customize communication preferences by logging onto the parent portal and selecting on the [tab or box] labeled “Loop”. Once you are logged into the system it will ask you a few questions and then take you through a short tutorial. You can customize your preferences through ”notifications”. If you are satisfied with your communication contacts, you do not need to take any additional actions.
