Delta Vista Middle School – Welcomes you to the 2014-2015 school year.

Delta Vista Families:

I hope you have had a great start to our school year. It is hard to believe that we are already half way through the school year and already planning for our end of year activities. I hope your children are enjoying this year’s middle school experience as much as we are!

I would like to take this time to focus on our number one priority, student safety. In recent weeks our community has experienced a tragedy on the railroad tracks near our school. From time to time it is brought to my attention that some of our students are crossing the railroad tracks while not using areas designated for pedestrian traffic. We want to ensure student safety on the way to and from school. We provide a crossing guard from 7:30 to 8:30 am and for one hour after school dismissal on the E. Cypress crosswalk at Main St. Additionally, we encourage students to use the Marsh Creek Trail undercrossing to walk from the back of Delta Vista Middle School to E. Cypress Ave. I encourage you to talk with your children about using crosswalks with crossing guards and safe crossing areas when crossing streets and railroad tracks while coming to and from school. Our message to our students is simple. Stay safe, stay off the tracks, it’s the law.

Another serious safety consideration is firearms or dangerous objects within the home. Currently, we have had no reports of firearms on any of our campuses and much of this credit must go to you, the parents. One of the easiest ways to prevent an accidental shooting at home or school is to make sure all firearms are properly stored. It is not only the logical, common sense thing to do, but is now the law in this state. California law holds that an adult may be held criminally liable if a firearm is improperly stored. Please help keep our students safe by being a responsible gun owner should you have one in the home.

On a final note, you may have also noticed an increase in police presence around the school vicinities in Oakley. We are working collaboratively with the Oakley police Department by requesting increased presence at our schools and surrounding areas. We believe this helps sends a message that school safety is a priority and we are doing everything we can to ensure student safety. If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear them. You can reach me at Delta Vista Middle School (925) 625-6840. Thank you for working together in keeping our children safe!
