The Home Stretch

The school year is rapidly coming to an end. We are down to less than a month left in the year and this is the time we really need your help in keeping students focused. There are a lot of distractions at the end of the year and we all want to make sure that every student finishes the year on a positive note. Please help to ensure that your child makes it to school and please talk to him/her about the importance of doing their best. Every year we end up having students that do not get to participate in end of the year events due to behavior and I do not want to see that happen to your child. A solid effort and good choices is all that we ask over the last days of the year. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us here at Delta Vista. Please take time to continue to look on our website and ask your child how things are going. If you need any assistance please do not hesitate to contact us.

*****The following messages regarding attendance, teacher web, traffic, students that walk to and from school, school priorities, and our mission and vision statements will not be changed. You will be able to see my weekly message on the main page of our website and if you link to Principal’s Message you can read the rest of the information. I am honored to be a part of this great school and I encourage you to get involved.

Have a great day and be proud to be a panther.

Rachel's Challenge
http://www.rachelschallenge.org
Rachel’s Challenge: Rachel’s Challenge is a program designed to inspire students to treat others with kindness and compassion.
Rachel Scott left behind an amazing legacy and a simple challenge to anyone who will accept it – treat others with kindness and compassion and you just may change the world in which you live. While Rachel’s Challenge is developmentally appropriate for children at the middle school level, the content can evoke strong emotions for some students. This helps spur students to embrace the concepts of kindness and compassion. I urge all parents to learn as much as possible about Rachel’s Challenge. To do so log on to www.rachelschallenge.org

Rachel Scott was the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20th, 1999. Rachel’s acts of kindness and compassion coupled with her six diaries have become the foundation for one of the most life-changing school programs in America today. Her brother, Craig, was in the library that day and lost two close friends and narrowly escaped death himself. A few weeks after the tragedy Darrell Scott, Rachel’s father, spoke to a Congressional House Judiciary Committee regarding issues of school violence. His speech has become one of the most widely read on the internet. Shortly afterwards he founded “Rachel’s Challenge”, a bullying and violence abatement program.

Rachel’s Challenge consist of powerful audio/video footage that holds students spell-bound during the one-hour school presentation which motivates participants to make a positive change in the way they treat others.
