Welcome
Welcome to Discovery Bay School. Discovery Bay School is a well established neighborhood school with high academic achievements, updated technology and highly qualified teachers and staff who are committed to providing each and every student the very best educational environment and academic programs possible. In order to do that, we operate on a modified year round schedule that allows us to experience less time away from school over the more traditional school breaks and spend more time with student. During our trimester instructional periods, we closely follow, teach and assess student’s ability to access and learn the state’s standards at each grade level. When needed, we modify our daily schedules to accommodate the learning styles of a variety of students. We offer assistance in reading and math throughout all of the grade levels and provide extra assistance for students who speak languages other than English as their primary language. We have a Spanish speaking aide in the office one hour a day (11-12) for parents to contact. We instruct struggling learners through the blended use of regular education teachers, support staff, reading aides, special education aides and volunteers. We assess and prescribe services for these students through our strong Response to Intervention (RTi) intervention pyramid. Included in this pyramid of services to all students are the EL teacher, resource teacher, special day class teacher, district reading specialist, principal and psychologist. Through the involvement of our PTA, we are able to offer art instructions to a majority of the students as well as increase the hours our school library stays open. PTA and the School’s site council, have provided funding for staff development and curriculum materials and training for each and every staff member. As a result, Discovery Bay School has the ability to offer a variety of programs to meet the needs of students who struggle in the core curriculum and has teachers with training in Board Math, Board Language, Great Valley Writing, Curriculum Calibration, Response to Intervention, Classroom reading training, Assessments, Study Island math interventions and technology. All grade levels offer enrichment classes for identified students as well as many of these same students having access to district structured GATE classes after school. In 2009, Discovery Bay School was recognized by the State of California as one of only eleven school’s in the state to receive recognition as a Service Learning Leader School. We continue to offer Service Learning opportunities to all of our students and encourage them to participate in these opportunities. We look forward to the future of our school and the students and parents that support it.
