8th Grade Science Update

Dear Parent/Guardian,                                   12/18/09

As some of you may remember from Back-to- School-Night, I am planning on taking a paternity leave to care for my four-month old son.

I want to let you know that Mr. Rob Rinsky will be teaching my science classes from January 5 through April 2.  He is a terrific teacher, who already has a lot of experience working with the students.  He has subbed for myself, and other science teachers, many times this year with great success.  Rob will be working closely with Mr. Greg Davies, Egan’s other 8th grade science teacher, while facilitating the end of our chemistry unit and most of the force & motion unit.  I will be meeting with Mr. Rinsky and Mr. Davies 1 or 2 times a month to assist them.   Rob will also have access to me anytime for any questions about the students or the curriculum.

I will be involved in finalizing grades for the 2nd Quarter and Mr. Rinsky will then be handling the assessment of your student for the duration of my leave.  All basic, day-to-day inquiries regarding your student and his/her performance should be sent to Rob Rinsky at rrinsky@eganschool.org beginning January 5.  I will still have my work email account but I won’t check it consistently.

Rob will also be using “Mr. Weitz Science Homework Schedule” on Google calendar and will be using my PowerTeacher account. So, the internet resources will continue to be in use.  However, Mr. Weitz’s website (the one linked from Egan’s site) will not be updated consistently until my return, so please refer to the Google calendar for homework information.

Rest assured, your student will continue to receive a rich and rigorous science curriculum, and will be prepared to succeed in high school science.

Thank you for your patience and understanding, as I take advantage of this terrific bonding opportunity, for which I am extremely grateful.

Best Regards,

Damon Weitz
