Welcome to Language Arts! Parents and students, please feel free to contact me at any time through voice mail or email: 771-1770 - school phone number amurray@rcsdk8.org - email 771-1775 x102 - voice mail/homework hotline Please note: Messages will be returned as quickly as possible, usually within 24 hours. The first trimester ended on November 20. As of November 30 we are starting a new term with the beginning of second trimester. First Trimester report cards will be mailed home the first week of December. Second trimester ends on March 12. Congratulations to my top spellers in each class: Period 1 - Destiny Butcher and alternate Alexis Millan-Ruiz Period 2 - Michael Allard and alternate Parker Carroll Period 3 - Dominick Quilala and alternate John Hynes Period 4 - Malerie Walker and alternate Gan Chanontree The top spellers in each class will compete in the next round of the Bee, to be held at lunch on Tuesday December 8 in Room A-4 (Dwillis). Good Luck! All 8th graders are required to pick out a novel to start reading as of November 13. Novels will need to be finished by Dec. 10. Most of the reading will need to be done at home, although some of the reading can be done during SSR time after lunch. Bring your novel to school with you every day! If you have any extra time, or you are done with your homework, you can read your novel! After we are done with the reading, we will be writing an essay (more info. on the essay to be announced in December!) A note to students who are absent: I suggest that students pair up with a "study buddy". Students should exchange phone numbers or email addresses with a fellow student in class in case of absence. I will of course continue to respond to homework requests, but a classmate might be able to answer your questions sooner! If you are absent on a day when we are reading in the Language Arts textbook, you may need to make arrangements to check out a copy of the textbook from our school library. To check out a textbook, contact our librarian, Mrs. Wolff. Grades are now available for parents and students to view online. Please contact Mrs. Mamuyac in the office if you need technical support or have trouble logging on. Please allow plenty of time for essays, tests, book reports, etc. to be scored and updated in the online gradebook. Language Arts involves reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. As you will see on the report card, the standards for Language Arts are as follows: 1.
