How can I contact the teacher?
Parents can email me at smattila@egusd.net, call the school at 683-3073, send
a note with your child, or speak with me before school begins or after all
students have been dismissed.
What time does school begin for A.M. kindergarten?
The kindergarten gate opens at 7:30 a.m. Class begins at
7:40 a.m.
What time is dismissal?
Dismissal is at 11:11 a.m. Students will be dismissed from the back door on the kindergarten playground.
Which room are you in?
We will be in kindergarten room K1 for the entire year.
My child is late and the gate is locked what should we do?
The gate closes promptly at 7:40 a.m. If your child is late, he/she will need to
enter school through the office and get a late slip before coming to the
classroom.
What if my child is sick?
Please do not send your child to school is he/she is ill. Parents should
notify the office or teacher by calling, emailing, or writing a note when
their child is absent.
What supplies does my child need for school?
Please send your child to school each day with a backpack large enough to hold
his/her 9x12 inch communication folder.
Do kindergarten students eat lunch at school?
In kindergarten, we have a combined snack time and recess. Please send a
small, nutritious snack with your child everyday. Snacks should not require
refrigeration or the use of a microwave. Please label your child's lunch
bag/box clearly with his/her name.
Can my child bring a treat for his/her birthday?
Yes! Your child may bring a treat for the class to celebrate his/her special
day. The treat should be something simple that your child can easily pass out
to his/her classmates. Cookies or cupcakes work the best. Please no cakes,
candles, or balloons.
What is the Star of the Week?
One child will be spotlighted each week as the "Star of the Week". When it is
your child's turn, you will receive a note the week before their special week.
Students are encouraged to make a "Star Board" with the help of their family
to display in the classroom and share with the class. Please use 'thin' poster
boards or construction paper for Star of the Week boards. The thick, cushioned
boards do not hang on the bulletin boards very easily.
When is homework due?
Homework will begin in August. Homework will be sent home on Monday in the
communication folder. Homework is due on Friday. Please remember to check
your child's homework packet for accuracy and neatness. Also remember to fill
out the front cover page of the homework packet.
I'd like to volunteer in the classroom, what should I do?
Parent volunteers will begin in August. Parents who would like to volunteer
are asked to sign in at the office and get a name tag first, before coming
into the classroom. Once in the classroom, parent volunteers are asked to be
sensitive to the different levels of learning taking place.
