Dear Parents, It's April and we have about one more month before going off track.  Here's what we'll be doing until then... In reading/language arts we'll continue our Open Court unit: Red, White, and Blue.  Focusing on stories about patriotism, phoneme awareness, beginning and ending sounds, blending and segmenting consonant vowel consonant words, mastering the kindergarten sight words, reading for comprehension and fluency, taking dictation and writing three sentence stories.  In math we are working on our addition unit. Next we'll begin subtraction!  We'll continue learning about our community in social studies and in science we've begun our unit on Living Things. 
 EARLY SCHEDULE REMINDER  All kindergarten students will be on the early schedule for the following days in April:  THURSDAY, APRIL 12TH for our walking field trip, FRIDAY, APRIL 13TH for a special assembly, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 25TH for a yo-yo assembly, and MONDAY, APRIL 30TH for track change day. WALKING FIELD TRIP  We'll be walking to Save Mart Food Store and then McDonald's on THURSDAY, APRIL 12TH.  We'll start walking at 8:00 a.m. sharp, rain or shine.  First we'll take our store tour and then walk to McDonald's for a snack and break before walking back to school for dismissal at 11:11 a.m. SPECIAL ASSEMBLY!  In March, Elitha Donner students met their school wide reading goal on Read Across America Day.  Now everyone is invited to attend a special assembly on FRIDAY, APRIL 13TH, to watch as Mrs. Jenkins and Mr. Stuart get breakfast dumped on their heads!  Come join the fun at the spirit rally on Friday, April 13th beginning around 8:20 a.m. in the outside quad area. TRACK CHANGE DAY  Track change day for C track is MONDAY, APRIL 30TH.  School resumes for C Track students on TUESDAY, MAY 29TH.  When we return for our last days in kindergarten, students will be assessed for their final report card.  Please remember to practice letter names, letter sounds, sight words, and numbers to 30 while off track in May.  LIBRARY DAY  There are only a few more Mondays to check out books before the library closes for the year.  Please remember to send in your child's library book by Monday each week so that he/she is able to check out a new library book to enjoy.  If your child has lost his/her library book, look for a notice regarding the cost of the missing book to come home in your child's communication folder.  Any money due must be paid prior to your child receiving his/her final report card in June. SPRING PICTURES  Please return pictures or money as soon as possible.  Thank you to those who have already purchased or returned their spring pictures.
