Since Christmas is Jesus’ birthday, that is where we will start and continue on through the boyhood of Jesus. Keep up the great work of learning the Bible verses! God’s Word says that if we hide His Word in our hearts, we will not sin against Him. Phonics: We will continue our study of compound words, syllables, opposites, root words, suffixes, and dividing words into syllables. We’ll learn about the three “ed” ending sounds to put with words. (Did you know there are three?) Reading Goals 2000: The students are doing great in this area. Keep up the reading over the Christmas break! It is easy to let it slip, with all of the hustle and bustle of the holidays. Why not read, “The Christmas Story,” from the children’s Bible? Remember to aim for reading 225 pages or more per month. Our total pages to date should be 675 pages or more. Please add the total number of pages and write the total in the box at the bottom of the REading Goal page. If you need an extra copy of the reading goals form, you can download a copy from my web site. yanderson@ecslions.org Math: We are counting higher these days! Pretty soon we will arrive at the number 200. We are working on reading numbers in the hundreds. We will be moving to higher number families with totals through 9. We will also work with coins, time, and thermometers. We will measure objects and talk about whole and half areas. Science: We will take a look at the elements that are around us and are so very necessary to our environment. (air, water and wind) Spelling: Did you notice our spelling lists are now 15 words?!?! Keep up the great work of assisting your child with the spelling words by practicing daily throughout the week. Social Science: We’ll be finishing up our unit on great Americans. We will also continue our study of the world map. Christmas Festivities: We’ll have a birthday party for Jesus on Friday, December 18th. We want to keep Him as the focus of this time of the year. After all, “He is the Reason for the Season.” Please lend your assistance to the parent who is orchestrating this event. Pilgrim/Indian Feast: Once again you proved to be the greatest parents on the face of the earth. The Pilgrim/Indian Feast was such a WONDERFUL event. There were so many individuals working behind the scenes with crock pot detail, organization, set-up/clean-up, dressing the students in costume, etc. Thank you, Sharon Erwin and friends for making all of those costumes 5 years ago.
