Dear Parents,
We are coming to the close of the year. It doesn’t seem possible for us to be in the month of December already. Wasn’t it September just yesterday? We only have three weeks to go till Christmas break, and we will be squeezing in many concepts and activities. Be sure your student continues working on their reading goals and multiplication facts to 12 over our vacation time. Mid-quarter progress reports will be sent out on the 9th. Here are some of the things we will be studying these next three weeks:
HISTORY: Our study of the colonial period will continue with a look at William Penn.
MATH: We will start using four digits in the dividend. Also the class will discuss the use of the greater than, less than, and equal symbols in math problems. They will use 6 as a divisor, find the unknown number in an equation, start to use money in multiplication and division problems, and measure to the nearest centimeter.
READING: The class will learn how to identify base words and compound words. They will learn about time relationships (A.M. and P.M. abbreviations) and how to read a schedule and calendar. The students will observe how an author uses imagery and character traits in a story and recall details of the story. In writing they will be writing a short story. Students will learn about suffixes and how to divide words into syllables.
SCIENCE: We will continue our study of what happens when environments change.
ENGLISH: Our study of verbs will begin and then go on to learn about prefixes, the parts of a book (glossary, index), the use of the dictionary, encyclopedia, and atlas. The class will conclude their writing of a narrative letter and move on to learn about the writing of a persuasive letter.
BIBLE: We will be learning about John the Baptist and Jesus’ birth.
I pray all of you have a blessed Christmas season and that all of us will stop and remember that Jesus is the reason for the season.
