ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Students have a place to keep a pencil or they may bring one each day to
class. Everything else will be supplied.
I will meet with you during conference days while you meet with your child’s
teacher. However, feel free to request a conference anytime or email me
with your questions or concerns.
READING AND LANGUAGE (ENGLISH):
“Wooden Nickels” will be distributed each week for those who have shown
consistent respect and responsibility in the classroom and who have turned
in homework (if any) all week. This means that supplies (pencils) and
homework are brought each day and behavior and attitude are positive.
Reward nickels can be used at the "Store" to purchase various prizes. The
PLP Store will open every Monday in Room 14 and every Friday in the Math
Room.
Curriculum and Grading:
1st grade Reading/Phonics and Language will use the same A Beka curriculum
as the regular first grade, but the pace will be a little slower, as
needed. Supplementary material will also be utilized.
2nd grade Phonics and Reading will cover the same concepts as the regular
second grade using most of the same curriculum and some supplementary
materials.
2nd grade language and writing will use most of the same curriculum as the
regular second grade and some extra material to help them master the
concepts.
3rd grade Language will cover the same concepts as the regular class while
using most of the same curriculum.
3rd grade Reading will be using a different reader than the class, that will
emphasize and teach comprehension strategies and decoding skills. They will
also be reading some classic literature as well as A.R. books.
4th grade Language will use the same curriculum as the regular class, with
some supplementary material as needed.
4th grade Reading will be using the same curriculum as the regular class.
They will also be reading some classic literature as well as A.R. books.
5th grade Language will use the same curriculum as the regular class, with
some supplementary material as needed.
5th grade Reading will be using the same curriculum as the regular class.
They will also be reading some classic literature as well as A.R. books.

MATH:
The Math Department has a slightly different reward system than the
Reading/Language Department. Students will receive a coupon each day for
following the classroom rules. At the end of the week, students will have an
opportunity to exchange their coupons for various prizes at the PLP classroom
store.
Curriculum and Grading:
All elementary Math classes use the same A Beka math curriculum as the
regular class. Manipulatives will be utilized to help reinforce new concepts.
The grading system for the 3rd-5th grades is consistent with the regular
class.
