What about Birthdays?
Feel free to bring an individual "healthy" snack to pass out at
first recess. Recess starts at 10:35.
Can my child bring water bottles?
Yes, we encourage students to bring water bottles to maintain
their hydration.
Where can we find Spelling Words?
Spelling words will be glued inside the Binder Reminder each
week. I will also have them displayed in the classroom. I will
also have the words listed under the "Spelling" link.
What about P.E.?
P.E. will take place Tues-Fri. from 1:10-1:40
Please make sure they are dressed appropriately.
Can my child do Make-up Work/Missed Work?
I will assign make-up work and will explain what is to be done
and when it will be due. Late or missing work is not accepted (any classwork not finished will be sent home in addition to homework and may turned in for full credit the following day.)
Can my child retake a Failed Test?
Students receive direct instruction, independent practice time,
one on one tutorials, small group practice, and study guides. It
is my hope that students pass each test. In the event of a non-
passing grade, the student will not be able to retake ,but I will
offer extra assistance to remediate the problem. Hopefully the
next time he or she interacts with the topic they will then know
the material and be able to show mastery of the concept.
Are Tutorials available?
I do offer extra math tutorials (during recess on assigned days).
I also have small flexible grouping strategies that allow me to
remediate any struggles students may be having.
What is Accelerted Reader?
Accelerated Reader is an individualized reading program that
promotes the love of reading. Students are given a personalized
goal and they take tests on books they have read and earn
points. They pass through 10 locations, getting prizes along the
way to help motivate them to achieve their personal best.
What is Battle of the Books?
Battle of the Books (B.O.B) is a program sponsored by the E3
Foundation to encourage reading. The 4th grade has a list of
books to choose from offering a wide selection of genres.
Students are given reading goals throughout the year, students
will be able to particpate in B.O.B celebrations as deadlines are
met. Our B.O.B celebrations help prepare us for the Battle of the
Books event at the end of the year in which students get to
compete with other students answering questions about the books
they were asked to read. The list of B.O.B books and permission
slip to participate in the program will be sent home at the
beginning of the year.
How do I know what grade my child is receiving in each area?
I encourage you to fill out the paperwork to receive your ESPRI
account number. The ESPRI account will give you access to your
child's current progess in each grading area. Please review
graded work in the Monday folder each week in addition to
checking your "Roadmap" Newsletter that comes in the Monday
folder each week. I ask that you verify your child's progress at
specific intervals throughout the trimester. I will verify that
you have seen your child's current grade in each subject area for
every 3, 6, and 9 week grading period.
