Lots of upcoming events, please check the calendar. Below is a copy/paste version of a form we are sending out tomorrow regarding a special after school field trip next Friday, and camp chaperones. (May 21-23):
Dear Parents:
We have a great afternoon planned for Friday, April 27th. We have plans to visit the Gateway Science Museum at Chico State, and then a baseball game which starts at 6PM. The cost is $2.00 for each event, so $4.00 total. Students would also need to bring a bag dinner, or money to stop and eat. Mr. Holman and I will be with the students the entire afternoon, and we’ll decide food etc. based upon the wishes of those attending. We understand that many of your families may have other plans, and that this is happening quickly. We will go with any students that have an interest to enjoy a fun afternoon together.
We do need a few parent drivers to help bring students to and from Chico. We have about 35 students who are currently interested. We will leave around 3PM. And return between 8:30 and 9 that night. Parents are welcome to join us, but do not need to stay with us all afternoon. We are very flexible, and will try to make all efforts for this trip to happen. Please let us know if you can drive on this trip. Please call, email, or stop by if you have any questions. As always, thanks for your support of our program and the students.

2012 Whiskeytown Camp Trip:
We are planning our end of the year camp trip and wanted to get some information out to everyone. We will leave for camp on Monday May 21stand return on Wednesday the 23rdbetween 1 and 3 PM. We need parents to drive and chaperone in order for this trip to happen. We will have an informational meeting for chaperones and parents who want details after open house on May 8th, at 7:30 in the Evergreen library for a quick presentation and to answer questions and give out forms. Our rummage sale/car wash on May 5thwill cover a great deal of the cost of camp, and we’ll send a note with final amounts due after we have our final tally. We would like a count of parents who are interested in driving students and gear to Redding and Whiskeytown lake for our trip. This will help us to have all insurance forms, permission slips etc. ready ahead of time. Finally, in the interest of student safety and in keeping with our behavioral expectations, we have implemented the following. During the 4thquarter of school, any student who earns 2 detentions or one day of in school or home suspension may only attend camp with their parent as a chaperone in order to ensure proper behavior. If you have any questions, please call (872-6465, x4050), email, or stop by to visit. We have enjoyed this year immensely, and cannot believe our year is almost over. Thank you for your support for this trip and all of the other activities this year.

Saturday, March 31A Huge thanks to all of our chaperones for yesterday's Feather Falls trip! We were so impressed with the positive attitudes and all of the work finding the 10 items on the list. (Who would have thought that the ladybugs would be in the parking lot...) The weather could not have worked out better - whew! If you multiply the 70 people hiking times nine miles, Evergreen hiked over 600 miles yesterday! That is like walking to San Diego, Salt Lake City, or Olympia Washington!
We hope everyone has a safe and restful break. Now is a great time to move ahead with A/R, or begin gathering up pieces for your science fair experiment. Traveling somewhere? Throw in the E6 waterbottle for some social studies extra credit!
We need a few solar boat team members to help with the build on Friday at 12:30. Please email Mr. H. or message him on Google groups if you can make it.
Thanks to Ryan B and family for the donations! We could still use more pencils, paper, erasers and tissue if you have any to spare.
Thursday, March 29
Feather Falls Tomorrow! Drivers please be at E6 at 7:30, students at 7:45. We will look at the current satellite and conditions and determine if we are going in the morning. Plan A - cloudy or scatered showers, go and enjoy a waterfall few get to see at peak flow. Plan B, if solid rain is certain the whole day, we will stay and have a regular day at school. Be sure to pack waterproof clothing, layers, extra socks, water, layers, good shoes, lunch and plenty of snacks. For the most optimistic forecast, we have been monitoring:
http://www.weather.com/weather/hourbyhour/USCA0370?begHour=4&begDay=90
Wednesday, March 28
Feather Falls is still a go! We are watching the weather carefully. If it is cloudy or scattered showers, we still plan on hiking. The falls will be charged with lots of water! Review the paper we sent home Monday and will again tomorrow for what to bring. Drivers arrive at 7:30am, hikers at 7:45am.
Evergreen is out of pencils, erasers, lined paper and tissue. If you have any surplus around the house you would like to donate - please send it if you can.
Easter break is approaching fast! Thanks to everyone who is going over their science fair procedures rough drafts at home before coming to school. Pay careful attention to spelling, capitalization of products, do your procedures "make sense" when you read them tosomeone who has not seen your project, and can you actually measure the results. All students who get their project approved this week (remember we have Thursday homework club after school too) can do their experiment during break. All experiments should be completed by Friday, April 13th so we can begin to graph the results in class.
Finally, Solar Regatta students interested in building the steering and doing other building on the boat, there will be a meeting during vacation on Friday, April 6th at 12:30. If you have been involved in the boat and would like to attend, please see Mr. H. We need about 5 students.
Wednesday, March 14,
Happy Pi day! Ask your student the formula for the area of a circle and circumference. Huge thanks to the 18 people who brought pies today! Also, scroll down on the left side and look at our calendar of events. Added some new things about upcoming events: Feather Falls/ Easter Break/ Camp Rummage Sale(new date)/ State testing/ Sacramento Trip/ Open House/ Solar Boat Race/ Camp. Whew! Add those items to your calendar, buckle up, and get ready for a fun and fast fourth quarter!
Wednesday, March 7,
Kite Day Thursday! Bring a kite or share one of the ours tomorrow after lunch. This is for everyone with all work in and a C or better. If you are behind, you will have one last hour to catch up. End of quarter is Friday.
Friday, March 2
Wow, thanks to the huge group of people helping at the solar boat meeting today! We really appreciate all of the students and adults willing to donate their time. We have a boat delivered and found thanks to the Thompson family. A few things to be aware of:
Next week is the final week of the 3rd quarter - all missing/absent/ retakes due Wednesday.
Kite Day is Thursday afternoon (weather permitting.) All students with work in and a C or better are invited to bring a kite or fly with friends.
As part of the paperwork for our May 18th Solar Regatta, we need to show the race organizers that we have premission slips in by next month. If you think that you might be able to drive on May 18th, please tell your student or email us and we will put your name on the permission slip as a possible driver. We know it is strange this far out, but that is what they need. We will send permission slips and media release forms (in case your student in photographed at the event) later next week.
Have a great weekend!
Thursday, February 23
Many quick bits of information:

See our Feather Falls tab for more information about this beautiful 9 mile hike. Homework Club update: We still have homework club every Monday and Thursday. We need about ten or more students to make this work, so please attend to catch up, get ahead, or just get your work done. We have noticed an increase in missing work lately and want to remind everyone of this great opportunity. Since we have a 4-day weekend, our Solar Boat meeting will be following homework club. This week the solar boat meeting will be Thursday: 3:50-4:50. Finally, a huge thank you to Rotary for supporting our Solar Regatta entry. Also thanks to Jennifer and family for receiving the award. Happy New Year and 3rd 1/4! There are some big changes taking place at Paradise Intermediate. By now you are aware of the "early out schedule" that was proposed by administration and passed by the school board last month. Also, there has been a school calendar change. Here is a link to the page to find the new calendars:
http://pusdk12.org/
Students will be released at 2:50 now each day except Wednesday. They will be out at 2:00 on Wednesdays. Due to this schedule change, we will no longer be able to offer the Wednesday after school academic support. Mondays and Thursdays will still be available with the new time: 2:50-3:50.
This week there will be no Thursday acadmic support. We are heading to pick some oranges that have been donated to our program. At school Friday, students will clean and bag them, and they will be available for sale: $5 a 10# bag. 100% of the money will go towards our end of the year camp. Please return bags when done so that we may reuse them. Any parents available to help Friday at 2 o'clock would be greatly appreciated!
Monday, December 5
Lots of things coming up fast this week!:
-District required testing all week, no L/A, science or social studies classes.

-Book Orders have been extended! Please turn in by Wednesday at the latest. (We will be ordering after school Wednesday to get the orders in before the break.)
-The district announced today that by law, we will have no school on Monday, January 2nd. The make-up day will be in April when we come to school on the scheduled snow-day make-up day.
-Evergreen Kindle permission slips are going home today. Please go over them carefully and return - the Kindles are a great extra and are not required. Huge thanks to PG&E for the grant!
-Next Friday is the end of the second quarter
-Next Thursday, Mr. Snyder could use some parent help for our craft rotation from 9:45-12:20. Please let him know if you can make it.
-Next Friday we also could use parent help making treats for a holiday/end of quarter party, walking to Oak Knoll caroling, or staying at E6 while we are caroling to set up the hot chocolate and treats. This will also be that 9:45-12:20 time slot. Please let Mr. Snyder know if you can make it.

We will be sending home thank you letters to all of our amazing Lassen chaperones tomorrow. Altogether, Evergreen hiked almost 400 miles last Friday! (That is farther than a trip to San Francisco and back!)
Great to see all of the tye-dye shirts today! Remember every Thursday we wear them to show school spirit. Evergreen shirts have arrived and will go home tomorrow as well. Beginning next Friday, we will wear those every week and field trip too.

(below is a copy of a letter being sent home today)
Dear Evergreen Parents and Students,
It is hard to believe we are already into our second week of 6th grade! It was great to meet everyone last week and start to get to know everyone. We are getting used to our planners, new text books, switching classes and teachers. This week we are in new math classes and should be getting into a more regular homework routine.
We are very excited to announce our very first field trip: hiking Mt. Lassen! We had originally planned to do this is late September, however checking with the park last week we realized that there is only one school day this year that the trail will be completely open. We truly apologize for the short notice, but want to see if we can get enough drivers to make it happen. Please return this form ASAP so that we can send permission slips out for the trip next week.
The trip schedule looks like this:
Friday, September 2
7am: Arrive Evergreen and depart for Mt Lassen
9:30: Arrive Lassen Peak trail – hike up/lunch/return hike back to cars approximately 2pm
2-3:30: Visit Visitor’s center, return home
5:30: Approximate Return time to Evergreen (We will phone on the way home to give you a better idea.)
Additionally, Thursday September 1st we have planned a team-building day. Students will make tye-dye shirts, swim, and get to know each other better.
We are asking for $20 from each student to pay for the beginning of the year activities. Included will be:
An Evergreen 6 t-shirt (We wear them every Friday)
A Tye-Dye t-shirt (We wear them every Thursday) each student will make 9/1
An Evergreen 6 reuseable water bottle
A Chico Bag
$5 will be given to drivers for each student they can take to Mt. Lassen to help defray the cost of park admission and fuel for the trip.
Due to a glitch at registration, we found out many of you did not receive our welcome letter. We have attached that to this just in case.
Next Wednesday, August 31st is Back to School night at 6pm. We hope to see everyone there!
Please take a minute to visit our website and sign up for our newsflash. (Click on the button at near the bottom of the first page you see at: www.evergreen6.us) You will get 1-5 emails a month.
Again, thanks so much for such a great start to the year!
Sincerely,
Greg Holman and Pat Snyder
