What is the homework policy?
Students are given homework every night, Monday-Friday. Students will usually have four
pieces of homework, sometimes five, which consists of reading, spelling, math, and a worksheet. If
students do no complete their homework, then they must stay in for recess and finish it.
Additionally, if students do not do their homework, they will be in homework detention their entire
recess time and will lose the privelege to play. Parents will be notified if missing homework becomes
a chronic problem.
What if my child is absent?
If you know your child is going to be absent, please give me a call beforehand so that I can give your
child the missing classwork and homework prior to the absence.
If your child is absent, because of an illness, he or she must return to school the next day with a note
from the parent or doctor. Additionally, parents should call the attendance officer, Mr. Gutierrez,
even if your child is absent for one day and sign up for independent study.
What if I need to reach you?
I am usually in my classroom by 7:30 a.m. and stay afterschool until 4:00 p.m. You may call me at
break times (check class schedule) to reach me. You may also leave me a message and I will return your
call. To reach me, please call 818-896-7482 ext. 330 or 331
What if I want to bring in something for my child's birthday?
If it is your child's birthday, and you would like to bring in something, you must arrange it with me first.
Adittionally, please remember to bring healthy snacks.
What is star student?
Star Student is meant to be a week dedicated to your child to make him/her feel like a star. This
spotlight on your student will help boost self-esteem and will also allow the class to get to know your
child better.
What is Reading Cafe?
Reading Cafe is a time set aside once a week, when the classroom is created into a cafe-type
atmosphere. For reading cafe days, students will be allowed to bring a small pillow from home.
Students will then get to relax with a good book on the rug, and will be given a snack. This time is a
lot of fun for all of us, and it is meant for students to become more motivated about reading. If you
would like to bring in snacks for a Reading Cafe day, please call me and let me know.
Who can go on the field trips?
Due to limited space, I am only allowed to take one parent on the bus with us on field trip days.
Usually, I take the first person who tries to reach me. However, I also try to allow different
parents the opportunity to join us. Parents must remember that if they are coming on the field trip,
they must be of great help. Even though you will get time to spend with your child, you must also
spend the time assisting the teacher and overseeing the other children as well. It is a day of great
responsibility. Although I can take only one parent on the bus, parents are allowed to come on their
own by bringing their own cars. If parents do this, they must be responsible in finding out directions
for themselves and also paying their own entrance fees. Even parents who ride on the bus must pay
their own entrance fees.
What if my child loses his reading log or behavior log?
There are many documents on this website that can be downloaded and printed to your computer.
Among those documents are reading logs and behavior logs. If your child loses either one of these,
please feel free to print out a new one on the home/school documents tab. You will need Microsoft
Word to open these programs.
What if I cannot make it to my scheduled parent conference time?
If you are unable to make it to your parent conference appointment, you must call me in advance and
schedule an alternative time. Please be courteous and respectful of the teacher and other parents' time
and arrive on time. 818-896-7482 ext. 330
