Saving Tomorrow’s World

“Unless someone like you cares a whole lot, Nothing is going to get better.  It’s not.”

To introduce your child to the concept of taking care of our environment and how it supports our ecosystem, I will be reading the book, The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss.

After listening to the story, students will discuss the environmental problems presented in The Lorax.  My focus for this activity is to have students understand that our world is fragile and needs to be looked after if it is to be sustained for future generations.

They will understand that just as there are many endangered animal species found in nature that must be protected, our rainforests as well are often threatened by the actions of humans.  With the removal of these trees, the habitats of many animals such as the Giant Panda will be affected.  They will also learn that in recent years, the federal government has began to protect the forests so that humans will not cut down more trees than necessary.

After listening to the story, students will be completing a writing assignment that demonstrates their awareness of how they can help care for our Earth and what types of environmental changes they would like to see in the world around them.

Your child can also play the Lorax’s “Save the Trees” Game at this website: http://www.seussville.com/games
