3 Proficient Adequate Understanding of Grade Level Standards 70 - 89%
2 Basic Limited Understanding of Grade Level Standards 50 - 69%
1 Below Basic Minimal Understanding of Grade Level Standards 0 - 49%
Second Grade Writing Rubric
These rubrics are used when observing second grade students during writing conferences, or when
evaluating writing samples. Select the descriptions that best fit the child at that point in time.

My writing evidences the features of focus, logical
flow, and support or elaboration extended by
details, examples or descriptions.
I experiment with transitions.
