It's hard to believe that the first week of school is almost
completed. I am enjoying getting to know your children. They are
delightful.
We have begun working in our new math series called "enVisionMATH" by
Scott Foresman. We our currently working on place value through the hundred
thousands. So far, it has been a learning experience for both the students
and the teacher. I hope to have your students logged on to their web site
by next week so they will have accesss to the textbook online. Their web
site is PearsonSuccessnet.com.
In reading we are "Off to Adventure" in both reading and writing.
This is an important year in writing, since not only do the students learn
cursive, they need to begin to master multiple paragraphs, stories, and
personal narratives. When I get a chance, I try to incorporate the skills I
learned when I took a course in Step Up to Writing. We are still using the
Houghton Mifflin reading series, but reading will be up for adoption this
coming year.
Our social studies series is by McGraw Hill and also incorporates the
study of our community, Fresno.
We have the Harcourt Brace science series. Our first unit will cover
physics, which is filled with hands on investigations.
