Sci. 8 (Period 3)

Welcome to 2nd quarter!
ANNOUNCEMENTS: I start grades over each quarter. We keep graded work in a 
classroom file cabinet. An A or B at the first semester is required for 
placement in the advanced class of 9th grade biology. During this quarter, I 
will individualize procedures for struggling students. For instance, I may 
not require a planner check for successful students (as long as they stay 
successful), but require it from struggling students. 

Week of Monday 11/2/09 through Friday 11/6/09:

Monday 11/2:
Planner Check, Stamp page 27, W-Up: 1. Can a clay boat displace less water 
than when it is a clay ball, and still float? 2. Why does a helium balloon 
move forward when the car it is in accelerates forward?, Go over packet 
pages, file 1st quarter graded papers in classroom file cabinet.
Homework: Due Tue 11/3:
1) Ch 4 packet and vocab
2) Study for Ch 4 Test tomorrow

Tuesday 11/3:
Planner, no stamps, skip W-Up today, Take Ch 4 Tests, Turn in Ch 4 packet and 
vocab

Signed SPR

Wednesday 11/4:
Planner, in-basket (due today): signed SPR, W-Up: 1. What physical pressure 
did you encounter today? 2. Define pressure scientifically., Receive Ch 5 
packet, Make-Up Tests?, Correct tests in class.

forms?, Finish Lab 5A part 1 graph (stamp earned if done before E.O.P.), 
Reorganize science notebook

Monday 11/9:
Planner Check, Stamp vocab #9, Warm-Up: 1. Name as many phase changes as 
possible. 2. Draw a diagram of a convection current., 5.1A notes (page 24 
front, and page 25 back), If time: work on backlog of note questions, 
summaries, and CS's.
Homework: Due Tue 11/10:
Read and Highlight Lab 5B

Tuesday 11/10: 
Planner, W-Up: 1. 2. , Notes 5.1B, time to work on note questions, summaries, 
and CS's.
Homework: Due Thur 11/12:
Get all caught up on notes questions, summaries, page #'s, NDP, and CS's for 
4.1 through 5.2B
ANNOUNCEMENT: Ch 5 Test and Packet due Tue 11/17

Wednesday 11/11: Happy Veteran's Day! A big "Thank you for your service!" to 
all our wonderful men and women in the armed forces! Including Coast Guard 
and others!

Thursday 11/12: 
Planner, W-Up: Copy drawing from board. 1. Which letter(s) represents solid?
2. Which letter represents boiling?, 5.2 Notes, Stamp (if finished) 41. 
through 5.2 notes and CS's.

Friday 11/13:
Planner, W-Up: Heat conduction requires 2 conditions. List them. 2. Which is 
the poorest conductor? a) air-filled balloon b) glass of water c) a vacuum d) 
copper wire., Cross out Lab 5A part 3, Lab 5A. Any spare time should be used 
wisely.

Monday 11/17:
Planner, Stamp page 9, W-Up: 1. True or False, Molecules made from long 
chains of repeating units are CRYSTALS. 2. What happens when solid A at 60 
degrees Celsius is touching solid B at 40 degrees Celsius., 1st period = 
demonstrate lab 5B, 3rd period = make "Thankful Hand", Work time to complete 
Notes, CS's, vocab, etc.
Homework: Due Tue 11/16:
1) Ch 5 packet
2) Ch 5 vocab
3) Study for tomorrow's test

Tuesday 11/18:
Planner, Skip W-Up (except 1st period), Take Test, Due today: packet, vocab.
Homework: None

Wednesday 11/19:
Planner, W-Up: 1. In addition to mass and ___________, there is a third

charged. Circle them: electron proton neutron, Corrrect Tests Part 1., 
Receive Ch 6 packet
ANNOUNCEMENT: Ch 6 Test will be on Friday after returning from Thanksgiving 
Break.

Planner, Stamp Page 9, W-Up: 1. Name the four forces in atoms. 2. Which force 
is an "unsolved mystery in science?", Go over any questions concerning most 
recent test, Lab 6A
Homework: Due Fri 11/20: Spend 20 minutes on pages 1-7
Homework: Due Tue 12/1: Pages 12-15
ANNOUNCEMENT: Ch 6 Test will be on Friday 12/4 after returning from 
Thanksgiving Break. The Ch 6 packet is also due Friday 12/4. Science Notebook 
will be due Thursday 12/3. Reminder: working ahead is expected if homework is 
not taking the entire 20 minutes each night.

Friday 11/21:
Planner, Stamp page 5, W-Up: 1. what term(s) describes the sum of neutrons 
and protons? 2. Draw a diagram of lithium., Go over 5.1 SR, Read 6.1 silently 
and start the vocab sheet, Receive stamp on vocab if engaged entire period.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Ch 6 Test will be on Friday 12/4 after returning from 
Thanksgiving Break. The Ch 6 packet is also due Friday 12/4. Science Notebook 
will be due Thursday 12/3. Reminder: working ahead is expected if homework is 
not taking the entire 20 minutes each night.

and strangers.
