PTA EventsGarden Gate PTA holds various student enrichment activities and family events throughout the year. You can check the date of the events at the PTA calendar page. The following activities and events would not happen without your generous donations and support:
in alphabetical order Art Night An evening full of art and crafts for families to enjoy. Art Night is held on alternate years with Literacy Night
Book Exchange Night Everyone brings and exchanges books, videos and DVDs that have been gently used and no longer needed. This has became one of the favorite family events of the year.
Book Fairs Scholastic book fairs are held twice a year; the Fall Book Fair and the Spring Book Fair. The book fairs are open during school hours for a week, and on Thursday evening which coincide with Fall Social and Spring Social.
Coffee with the Principal The principal shares the year's plan of curriculum and programs, school activities and events, resources and support, parents involvement etc. This 45 minutes presentations is full of information, with time for questions. It is for parents only and is usually held in the morning of the second week after school year begins.
Discovery Day A day for students to explore and learn firsthand about the diversed professions and hobbies of the people around them. 30-40 minutes presentations, talks or demonstrations are held in the classrooms by presenters who are parents, friends and people from the community. All professions and hobbies are welcome. Discover Day is celebrated every other year, alternating with International Day.
Fall Celebration In celebrating the Fall season in October, the staff and parents provide an afternoon of free games and activities such as Face Painting, Pumpkin Relay, Art & Crafts, and much more. Sale of pumpkins and homemade baked goods are also available.
Fall Social A family dinner, usually pizza and pasta is held on Thursday evening at the same time with the Fall Book Fair. This is a great time for families to have dinner and enjoy the book fair in one evening.
Fun in the Sun In June as to end a great school year, the students have an afternoon of fun outdoor activities and water games like Bubbles, Sponge Relay, Obstacles Course, Hula Hoops contest and more. There is also "Dunk the Teachers" activity. This event has become a favorite!
International Day A day where students come to school dressed in international costumes, whether from their own culture or from other cultures. There is an opportunity for the students to learn and perform songs, dances and skits from various countries. Parents, family members, friends and the community are invited to share information about their own culture by giving classroom presentations or demonstrations, or preparing booths for students to visit. International Day is celebrated every other year, alternate with Discovery Day.
Literacy Night An evening for families to enjoy many fun literacy activities such as Poetry Puzzles, Word Bingo, Jump Rope Poetry, board games and much more. Literacy night is held on alternate years with Art Night.
Math Night A fun night of exploration and at the same time learning some hands-on math exhibits and math related activities. Math Night is held on alternate years with Science Night.
Red Ribbon Week In conjunction with the National Red Ribbon Week Celebration, we have a week program for students that emphasize committment to a drug free and healthy life style through the symbol of Red Ribbon. Among other things, the students and staff have the opportunity to wear Red Ribbon bracelets, learn the Red Ribbon Pledge, tie Red Ribbon on the school fences etc.
Safety Night An informative evening for parents where guest speakers from the sheriff department and local emergency services discuss personal preparedness, and safety issues in the school and in the community. There are activities for children which include fire safety and prevention, personal and bike safety, police and fire vehicles to explore, visit from the canine unit, giveaways and much more.
Spring Social Held on Thursday evening at the same time with the Spring Book Fair, families enjoy the evening with ice cream sandwiches and having fun at the book fair.
Science Night An intriguing evening of interesting hands-on science exhibits and science related activities for the whole family to enjoy. Science Night is held on alternate years with Math Night.
Staff Appreciation Week Teachers and school support staff such as teacher aides, school secretaries, librarian, nurse, guidance counselors, cook, custodian play a significant role in children's lives and education. In order to honor and recognize their contributions, parents and students show their appreciation with different treats every day for a week such as flowers, homemade cards, staff luncheon, after school staff tea party etc.
Welcome Back Breakfast Free breakfast for parents on the first day of the school year.
