Parent Traffic Duty

Parents from each classroom are requested to sign up to help with traffic in the mornings 7:45 - 8:05 am and on the Tuesday afternoon 1:30 - 1:45 pm. If you have some flexibility in your schedule for a week, please help us out. We are asking for only 15-20 minutes of your time. It is very important to the safety of our students and adults that accompanying them. One to two adults cannot manage the whole parking lot, we require five to six adults each day to ensure adequate coverage.

Please contact your Room Parent or your child's teacher on the day/days you can volunteer.

Review the guidelines below when you have traffic duty.

Safety Tips for Crossing Guards
  1. Always wear your safety vest. The Vehicle Code requires it for drivers to obey you.
  2. Watch for a break in the traffic before holding up the STOP sign. Then walk out to the center of the road when cars have stopped.
  3. Blow a whistle when you hold up the sign. This will get the drivers' attention before you start to cross.
  4. Have pedestrians wait at curb before you signal for them to cross when you are in the center of the roadway.
  5. Wait for a group to gather before stopping traffic. This will prevent back ups on the street.
  6. Watch traffic. DON'T turn your back to traffic. Keep looking around. Be safe!
