Back from Spring Break and
look at our GARDEN!!!!!!!!! (March 2013)
-Ms. Carla works with EDLC students
to plant our first flowers!
March 3rd, 2013: Continuing our Planting and Garden and Insect Fun inside the classroom!
Exciting! :) Our Gehringer SDC class chose to
release their Painted Lady Butterflies into
the EDLC garden as they are "helpful" insects for
our growing garden! The SDC class raised these
butterflies from catepillars! They were all
very excited to see them take flight and enjoy our
flower pallet garden. Our EDLC garden is beginning to
share it's space with our Gehringer community!
Can you spot the Painted Lady Butterfly in tree
above the EDLC garden!
Above: After releasing the butterflies into our garden, EDLC friends
found a butterfly still lingering in our space! We observed it's colors and
tried to find a safe place for it to life and drink sweet nectar.
Above: Look who we found in our classroom! Eeekkk! A spider!
We observed him a bit, then chose to release him in a safe
place FAR from the classroom and garden!
ALONG WITH THE GARDEN, LOOK AT
WHAT WE'RE UP TO!
Above: Carla leads our first planting activity - onions! Friends will take these home over Spring Break, water and take care of them then bring them back when school resumes to plant in the garden! :)
Ladybugs are here!!!!!!! (below)
Ladybugs OUTSIDE - We found ladybugs
outside! Friends observed them on their own bodies
and in bug catchers. At the end of our outside time,
friends let the bugs free again :) (below)
(below): Our second "critter" arrived
today (April 8th) in it's egg case!
What is it? PRAYING MANTISES!!!!!! The kids are
really excited to watch this egg hatch into over 800
baby praying mantises (called nymphs)!
Bug Costumes! :)
(above): Friends act as butterflies
morphing in their chrysalis and then
Friends get active by practicing
yoga outside in our warm weather!
Ms. Diana and the EDLC have been learning about chickens
since January! As Ms. Diana's internship comes to
a close, the students have chosen to build their
very own REAL chicken coop! Take a look at their
hard work and Miss Lindsay's hens testing it to see if
they like it :)
On April 24th, our first Praying Mantis Egg Case HATCHED!!!!
Below: As part of MESSY MAY, we started a water play table!
Friends found out how to create "volcanoes" or "explosions" using water,
funnels and water!
