HELPFUL HINTS FOR A GREAT SCHOOL DAY!
Breakfast – It is very important that students have a good breakfast at home or school to start their day off right. We do have a breakfast program at Gehringer. If you need a lunch application to see if your child qualifies for free/reduced breakfast and lunch, please stop by the office for one.
Start time – School starts promptly at 8:15 a.m. for Kindergarten and grades 1st – 5th. Students should arrive at school no later than 8:10 a.m. in order to get to class on time. If you are bringing your child to school please allow yourself enough time to get through the morning traffic.
Snack – It is important to send a snack with your child whenever possible. For some children (especially our bussed students) it’s a long time between breakfast and lunch.
Lunches - Please make every effort to make sure that your child has his/her lunch for the day. You can pay ahead for lunches in the cafeteria. Regular price for lunch is $2.25 per day. If you send a check with your child, please put it in an envelope with your child’s name and teacher name. All checks should be made payable to: Oakley Food and Nutrition.
Appointments – Our students have their reading program early in the morning. It is our desire that all students have 1 ½ hours of uninterrupted reading daily. If it is necessary to schedule an appointment for your child during the school day, please try to make the appointment for after lunch. If you phone ahead or send a note, we will try our best to have your child waiting in the office for you.
Dismissal – Please arrive a few minutes after your child’s dismissal time to pick them up from school. Once our buses have left, you can freely pull up to the curb to pick up your child. Under no circumstances should you ever leave your car unattended at the curb. If you need to come into the office or on our schoolgrounds, please park in a marked parking space. It is our goal that all children arrive and leave the school grounds safely. Please remember to slow down when entering the parking lot and to make sure the cross walks are clear before you enter.
REMEMBER ALL students are dismissed early EVERY WEDNESDAY.
Early Release Times:
Kinder - 1:15pm
1st-3rd - 12:20pm
4th-5th - 12:35pm
HOMEWORK - Homework is assigned by the classroom teacher as a means to allow students extra practice and to apply information they have learned in class. Homework is also a good way for students to learn to work independently. Helping your child with homework by providing a study area or creating a schedule at home is a fantastic way to set them up for success. If you have any questions about your child’s homework, please feel free to speak to the classroom teacher. Your help and support with homework is greatly appreciated
Absences – Please do call our 24 hr. absence recorder when your child is absent. You will need to leave the following information:
ü Student’s name
ü Your name and relationship to the student
ü Date of the absence
ü Reason for the absence
