STARS: Support, Teach, And Reach all Students

Our Mission
The Etiwanda School District is dedicated to promoting high standards in curriculum, instruction, performance and personal behavior. It is our goal that each student achieve academic excellence and develop respect for self and others so that they become contributing members of our culturally diverse society. The responsibility for the development of these qualities in all students is accomplished through a cooperative effort among students, parents, staff and community.

Welcome to John L. Golden Elementary School, where children shine. We are located in the northern portion of the City of Rancho Cucamonga, in San Bernardino County, California. John L. Golden Elementary School is part of the highly respected Etiwanda School District.

Our school is named for John L. Golden, who worked for the children of Etiwanda School District for 32 years. Mr. Golden served the Etiwanda School community as a teacher, principal, Assistant Superintendent, and eventually as the Superintendent of the Etiwanda School District. Mr. Golden contributed to the philosophy of education that permeates the Etiwanda School District and John L. Golden Elementary.

Hello Golden Families,

• 6:45 – 7:25 – Classroom presentations, Session two

School Hours
• AM Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten - 8:00-11:20
• PM Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten - 11:25-2:45
• Grades 1 – 5 - 8:15-2:45
• Minimum Day every Monday (grades 1-5) - 8:15-1:15

Supervision and Drop Off
Student safety is our top priority. 1st-5th grade students enter through the front gates, drop their backpacks off at their classrooms and walk to the playground. There is no recess before school as it is arrival time. We provide two options for students before school: 1) Walk in the Walking Program; 2) Walk and talk in the Hang Out Zone. Students may not wander the campus before school, or run and play on the playground. To ensure "on time" arrival, students should be in line on the playground by 8:10 a.m. A student is considered tardy if they are not in their seat at 8:15 a.m. We ask all visitors to exit our campus right at 8:10 when the line up bell rings so we can secure the campus.

Class Placement
Tentative class lists will be available online at beginning Monday, July 31st at 4:00 p.m. for Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten and Thursday, August 3rd at 4:00 p.m. for Grades 1-5. Please note that for your child’s class assignment to be posted, all registration paperwork and fines must be turned in.

Please note that all parents MUST update emergency information and permissions on the Parent Portal before you can access student’s class information. Please do not wait until the first day of school to do this as it will delay your child’s start to the school year. Access the parent portal by logging on to the John L. Golden Elementary webpage and selecting the Parent Portal tab.

Child Care
The Etiwanda School District provides onsite child care on Golden’s site at a cost. Please visit the district website at . Morning school supervision begins at 7:50 a.m. If your child requires supervision prior to this, please contact child care.

Lunch menus, online payment information, meal applications, nutrition and fitness tips can be found in one place on the Child Nutrition Services webpage at Lunch menus are not sent home. We strongly encourage you to prepay lunches with either cash/check or online at . The price of lunch is $2.75 which includes a beverage. Milk or water is .50 cents. Your child’s lunch number remains the same from last year.

Parent Involvement
One of the greatest elements to student success is parental involvement at school. One of the best ways to stay up to date on current school events is to frequently visit our website. Save us to your favorites! There are many opportunities to get involved. A great place to start is by joining our Golden PTA or becoming a Parent Volunteer.

On behalf of the entire staff, welcome to the 2017/2018 school year! We look forward to an exciting and successful year!

Warmest Wishes,

Mrs. Wildes and Mrs. Howell

Come to School Prepared

One of the best ways you can help your child is assist them in learning organization and responsibility through the daily lesson of coming to school prepared. By having them come with their homework, lunch, jacket and school materials, they learn the value of being responsible. If these items need to be dropped off later in the day, office staff will not interrupt instruction by calling the classroom. Items will be left in the teachers mailbox or the student should know to come up on their recess or lunch time to pick them up. Thank you for working with us to create responsible students and protect their instructional time at school.

School Traffic
Click Here for More Information on School Traffic
If you live in the neighboring homes, please walk or ride your bikes to school to decrease our traffic. Our bicycle racks are next to our MPR. Parking for visitors is available at the park and on neighboring streets. Parking in the school parking lot requires a staff permit. Please remember to follow all driving laws around our school. Handicapped parking is only for people truly handicapped. The handicapped parking should not be used to wait in the car for a student. Similarly, for the safety of our students, there is no student pick-up or drop-off in our school parking lot. Thank you for helping us achieve our first priority- keeping our kids safe. We are excited to have you all back at school and look forward to a wonderful year!
