STARS: Support, Teach, And Reach all Students

Our Mission
The staff of Golden Elementary School is dedicated to the development of all students who through problem solving experiences, physical fitness, and overall academic excellence will demonstrate the skills necessary to be productive citizens showing personal accountability and sensitivity for themselves and a global society.

Welcome to John L. Golden Elementary School, where children shine. We are located in the northern portion of the City of Rancho Cucamonga, in San Bernardino County, California. John L. Golden Elementary School is part of the highly respected Etiwanda School District.

Our school is named for John L. Golden, who worked for the children of Etiwanda School District for 32 years. Mr. Golden served the Etiwanda School community as a teacher, principal, Assistant Superintendent, and eventually as the Superintendent of the Etiwanda School District. Mr. Golden contributed to the philosophy of education that permeates the Etiwanda School District and Golden Elementary.

Dear Golden families,

Our 2016-17 school year is off to a great start! It has been so wonderful to visit classrooms each day and see students settle into routines as we begin a fantastic year. Our theme this year is “Power to Be Your Best”. Our teachers have been working hard planning and preparing their lessons to encourage our students each day to meet this challenge.

We have adopted a new English Language Arts curriculum that is aligned with the rigor of the California State Standards. Students are reading more informational text, talking and synthesizing about text and writing more. Our students are well on their way to a greater understanding of all aspects of literacy to become more college and career ready.

Our official CAASPP scores have been released from last spring’s SBAC testing. Golden Stars once again scored amazingly well!! Our 3rd through 5th graders well surpassed county and state averages. 70% of our students exceeded or met the standard in ELA, and 63% exceeded or met the standard in math. I am so proud of our Stars!

We have exciting G.O.L.D. (Golden Opportunities for Learning and Development) after school programs available for our students this fall including robotics, theater, painting, hockey, basketball and intramurals. Please visit our website for details.

Golden Elementary is proud to be a Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) school. We are so happy to have our Golden Dads on our campus supporting our students. If you have not yet signed up, please join us!
We want to thank our wonderful PTA for all of the support and enthusiasm they show to our school. They have an amazing plan this year and I encourage every parent to join.

As we settle into our routines and turn the pages of great learning, please know how much I appreciate this wonderful community. Your continued support for our school reminds me every day what a wonderful place this is for students to grow and learn.

Warmest Wishes,
Mrs. Wildes and Mrs. Howell

School Traffic
Click Here for More Information on School Traffic
If you live in the neighboring homes, please walk or ride your bikes to school to decrease our traffic. Our bicycle racks are next to our MPR. Parking for visitors is available at the park and on neighboring streets. Parking in the school parking lot requires a staff permit. Please remember to follow all driving laws around our school. Handicapped parking is only for people truly handicapped. The handicapped parking should not be used to wait in the car for a student. Similarly, for the safety of our students, there is no student pick-up or drop-off in our school parking lot. Thank you for helping us achieve our first priority- keeping our kids safe. We are excited to have you all back at school and look forward to a wonderful year!

Come to School Prepared

One of the best ways you can help your child is assist them in learning organization and responsibility through the daily lesson of coming to school prepared. By having them come with their homework, lunch, jacket and school materials, they learn the value of being responsible. If these items need to be dropped off later in the day, office staff will not interrupt instruction by calling the classroom. Items will be left in the teachers mailbox or the student should know to come up on their recess or lunch time to pick them up. Thank you for working with us to create responsible students and protect their instructional time at school.

Setting Up a Parent Portal

A message from Charlayne Sprague, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction:

The Etiwanda School District is transitioning to a new student information system called Aeries dot Net Web. This new system allows parents to easily register students or update emergency card information online. Parents will also be able to access and review the Parent Handbook electronically.

This new system has a robust parent portal that will provide access to your child’s grades and important school information. Our original parent portal, ESPRI, has been deactivated this summer.

In order to establish access to the new Aeries parent portal you will need to have a valid email account linked to your child’s directory information. On Monday, August 1, the Etiwanda School District will send a test message to the parent email address we have on file for you in our student directory.

If you receive the test email, you are good to go. A second email will be sent to you on the first day of school, Monday August 8, which will include directions for setting up your parent portal.

If you do not receive an email, please contact your child’s school to add an email address to your child’s directory information before Monday August 8.
