Golden Valley High School CSF Chapter 1389-sc

California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is a statewide organization which honors outstanding high school students for their academic excellence. Following each semester's grading period, students can apply for membership. Students are not automatically inducted into CSF; they must apply for membership each semester. The application process is simple as it consists of three lists that weigh academic required classes, academic electives, as well as other qualifying classes and activities.

Membership

CSF Membership is not automatic; it is based on scholarship and is gained after qualifying grades are earned. Each semester is based on the previous semester report cards. In order to become a member, the student must submit an application each semester the student is eligible. Applications are accepted at the start of each semester for about two weeks. A point system specified in the CSF State By-Laws establishes the membership requirements.

To be eligible, a student must earn a total of 10 points for the semester in five classes.

  • An "A" = 3 points, a "B" = 1 point, and an "A" or "B" in an honors or AP course will receive an extra point, (up to a maximum of 2 points per semester)
  •  No points are given for grades below a "B" and a student may not have a "D" or "F" in any subject.
  • Seven of these10 points must be earned in academic subjects and the remaining 3 points may be from non-academic areas.
  • NO POINTS ARE GIVEN for PE, summer school, college courses, student assistant or repeated courses.

Please refer to lists I, II, and III posted on this website and found on the CSF applications. The majority of the required membership points must come from University of California accepted course work.

Seniors need a minimum of four semesters of membership in order to earn Sealbearer status. One semester must be based on senior year grades and three based on sophomore and junior year grades.
