Hi everyone, Happy Sunday. I'm looking forward to our field trip on the bay tomorrow. It should be a nice day. Be sure your child dresses in layers and has a warm jacket. Please send a water bottle too. Most importantly ..... have your child at school at 8:00 A.M. tomorrow! Please have your child come to the classroom. If you are a driver, please come up too. Thanksgiving has snuck up on me, and I bet it has for you too! We have the week of 11/21 off, which is next week! Here's what's happening in our class this week: Grandparents' Day on Wednesday. Grandparents are invited to chapel (10:30), and then your child can invite them back to class for a short visit. Does anyone want to supply cookies for a special treat? Friday will be our Thanksgiving Gathering. We will eat an early lunch (11:30) as a whole school, and students will sit with their buddies. Room parents will be collecting napkins and some paper or plastic tablecloths (Party City or similar) for us. Please contact Kim or Lisa if you can send in napkins or tablecloths. Because of the allergy issues, no desserts will be served this year. This is just a time to gather with our buddies and share what we are thankful for. No tests again this week. Thanks for your support on the Captain Crunch report. The closets look great! The research papers students wrote in class are quite good too. We've worked hard on writing this year, and I think I see improvements for some students in their writing already. They are understanding that writing means rewriting, and good writing requires a lot of reading! Thanks for your responses about reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. All responses were positive, so I have planned the unit, and we will start reading the book on Tuesday. Please help your child remember to do the required reading they need to do at home. They will also have journal homework daily. Please help your child finish all requirements by reading the first page of the journal that tells the daily requirements. Thanks for your support.
We will finish our measurement unit this week. Students will be learning how to add and subtract negative numbers, and I will need your support at home to check that your child understands the concept. There will be a test on this unit the Wednesday we get back from Thanksgiving break. Students will need to have the measurements memorized for the Customary System of measurement.
I hope you have a great week and wonderful Thanksgiving. I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to be your child’s teacher, and that I have such wonderful parents and support this year. God bless you all!
Warmly,
Kim
