Welcome to All GREAT Grizzly Families!
GREAT Grizzlies Go Up and Beyond, Are Ready to Learn, Show Empathy for Others, Strive for High Academic Achievement, and are Team Oriented!
Hello Grapeland Families! I want to extend my most sincere welcome to all of our Grizzlies. The excitement for this new school year is already building, and we promise to deliver another great year of growth and learning. Our school staff and all of our parents certainly deserve the praise for making our vision a reality each year. Your Grapeland PTA is the most energetic and positive group that I have ever seen on a school campus!
Orientation for all of our TK and Kindergarten students will be on Friday, August 5th at 9:00 a.m. Attending orientation is beneficial. You will receive detailed information and have all of your questions and concerns answered prior to the first day of school and kinder bags and spirit wear will be on sale this day. Our start time for morning Kindergarten classes will be 8:00 a.m. and dismissal will be at 11:20 a.m. Our afternoon TK and Kindergarten classes will begin at 11:25 and dismiss at 2:45.
This year, school begins on Monday, August 8th at 8:15 a.m. This is a minimum day and school will dismiss at 1:15 p.m. Back to School Night is in the evening, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Every Monday will be a minimum day and school will be dismissed at 1:15 p.m. Regular dismissal time, Tuesday through Friday, is 2:45 p.m.
Drop-off Procedures and Times -- When school begins on Monday, August 8th, students should arrive at school no earlier than 7:45 a.m. Each morning at 7:45 a.m. we will open the gate north of the office building. Students may proceed directly to the hard courts at this time. From 7:45 until 8:00 a.m., students must remain to the north side of the handball walls for supervision purposes. At 8:00 a.m., we will open additional gates and students may occupy any portion of the hard courts. At 8:13 a.m. when the school bell rings, students should find their classroom number painted on the hard court concrete and wait there until their teacher arrives.
PTA Meet and Greet – On the first day of school, right after the teachers have taken the children to their classrooms, all parents are invited to the MPR for our annual Meet and Greet.
Student Safety during Drop-off and Pick-up – Safety is always our first concern and we MUST work together to ensure safe passage. The yellow curb immediately in front of the school is the ONLY place students may exit your vehicle. School employees will guide you each morning and afternoon to assist you at these very busy and congested times of the day. Continue to move forward along the yellow curb until the line of cars has come to a complete stop before allowing your child to exit or enter your car. The school parking lot and the curb along Etiwanda Avenue are NOT safe or appropriate places to allow students to exit your car. Additionally, the red curb in the drop-off area is a “no stopping” zone.
Please allow for some extra time and bring your patience during this typically high traffic, and high student density time. NOTE – the bus turn around will be blocked off and is not a location for student drop-off or pick-up; however, it may be open for school events—Awards assemblies, etc.
Lunch schedule: First Grade 11:45, Second grade 11:55, Third grade 12:05, Fourth grade 12:20, Fifth grade 12:35.
Student Placement and Schedules -- Student classroom assignments will be posted on-line on Thursday, August 4th at 4:00 p.m. for grades 1 through 5 and Monday August 1st for TK/K. To see your child’s schedule online, go to https://espri-web.etiwanda.k12.ca.us/classes and follow the parent link.
New Students – On Friday, August 5th the campus gates will be open from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Although teachers will not be on campus, you can locate your new classroom and find your class number painted on the hard courts where you will meet your teacher each morning.
Fundraiser Kick-off – Our annual fundraiser will begin in September. Your child will receive a fundraising packet and all of the needed information. The success of this fundraiser is very important in order to continue many of our PTA sponsored programs. Thank you for supporting these efforts!
Back-to-School – This year Back-to-School night is scheduled for Monday, August 8th. Classes will be open from 6:30 – 7:45 p.m. Each teacher will give two thirty minute presentations for those parents with multiple students at Grapeland. A detailed flyer will come home with your child on the first day of school. TK/Kindergarten will not hold a formal presentation. Please attend the orientation on Friday, August 5th beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Student Dress Code - Please become familiar with the dress code of the Etiwanda School District before purchasing new clothes for your child to wear to school. The complete dress code is available on the Etiwanda home page at the following address: http://www.etiwanda.k12.ca.us/district/dresscode.pdf
As always, I hope that the above information is helpful in preparing for this school year. I am certain we are going to have another GREAT Grizzly Year! I look forward to seeing you on August 8th.
