Uploading information to all Grizzly Families!

We hope your summer break has been fun and relaxing! The Etiwanda School District’s theme for this year is “Power Up for Student Success” and Grapeland staff has begun to plan for another exciting year. As we begin to reboot, we thought it would be helpful to provide some general information before we officially plug in. Here is an update to our staff as we bid farewell to a few and welcome the new.

Ms. Roberta has joined the district office staff, working alongside Mr. Sipos. Mrs. Barnett has taken a position working with independent study students in our district. Mrs. Cuilla moved to Arizona. Ms. Sabala has accepted a position as an elementary school administrator in the Ontario-Montclair SD, and Mrs. Thomas will serve our community at DCIS. We wish them all the very best in their new positions!

We welcome Cary Meixner (Secretary), Katie Thompson (5th), Kelsey Aylor (4th), Danielle Cross (3rd), and a new kindergarten teacher (TBD) to our Grapeland network!
Ms. Meixner is our new office secretary. Miss Cary has been a Grizzly for many years in the office, spent last year at DCIS, and is now our secretary. We are excited to have her back!

Katie Thompson will teach fifth grade at Grapeland. She spent the last 14 years in OMSD teaching elementary grades one through four. Now she has a chance to teach fifth grade as a grizzly! Mrs. Thompson comes with lots of experience and a love for teaching all kids.

Danielle Cross will join the third grade team since Ms. Cuilla moved to Arizona this summer. Mrs. Cross has taught up to sixth grade and started off as a kindergarten teacher, so she has 5 years of experience spanning the grades at the elementary level. She is excited to join our family!

Kelsey Aylor taught at Grapeland several years ago and helped open Perdew Elementary as a primary grade teacher. Now she has returned to Grapeland to teach fourth grade and is excited to share her love for the profession with those she teaches. It’s all in the family—Mrs. Aylor’s sisters are Ms. Kennedy and Ms. Lindy. Welcome back, Ms. Aylor!

Angela Melillo has been a one of our most requested substitute teachers at Grapeland and has been hired as a full time kindergarten teacher. As mom of two ESD students, PTA board member, and middle school GATE site representative, Mrs. Melillo comes with a great understanding of education and is a welcomed addition to our dynamic staff. We are excited to have her aboard!

We are excited for the connections that will be made this school year and reconnections with those that have made Grapeland “every child’s favorite place to be!” We are powered up and so excited to see you all very soon. The first day of school is a minimum day Thursday, August 6th. Back to School Night is that evening with classroom visitations beginning at 6:30 PM.

Don’t forget to support Grapeland’s PTA. There are many chances to volunteer and give monetarily to this great organization. We have many assemblies planned and exciting learning opportunities for all, supported by your generous donations.

Let's Power up...Together!

Parents, teachers, support staff, and community members, each have an important role in encouraging and inspiring our children to become active, life-long learners equipped for the 21st century. To this end, it is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the necessary skills to become productive citizens both locally and globally. Our children deserve the very best support in this ever-changing world, and we all have the privilege to be part of making this happen. These are exciting times!

Thank you for supporting our PTA with your time and membership! I encourage you all to join and volunteer. There are many opportunities to get involved, both small and large, and your support is one of the best ways to serve our students directly.
