Uploading the Latest News to all Grizzly Families!

Hello Grapeland Grizzlies!

Once again our spring state exams prove that Grapeland continues to be a school focused on high academic achievement. We exceeded expectations in meeting our goals in both English Language Arts and Math. Grades 3, 4 and 5 scored well above the state and county averages. At Grapeland, 69% of our students have met or exceeded the CCSS cut point in ELA and 65% of our students met or exceeded the standards in math—amazing! But this is only the beginning. With this data we have identified areas to make improvements. Our staff has begun the process of looking at multiple data measures to guide instruction and continue our relentless pursuit toward raising student achievement and supporting positive student behavior. Thank you for the continued partnership in this endeavor.

Can you believe that our school community partnered to raise nearly $40,000 and attained the 100% mark in PTA memberships again this year? Thank you all! And a big shout-out goes out to our fantastic team of parents who make up Grapeland’s PTA for their efforts toward our fall fundraiser/membership drive. I am amazed at the combined efforts of our school community and our PTA organization. It is evident that we all understand the importance of partnering for a great cause—supporting our children! Due to these efforts, PTA will be able to continue to fund weekly music appreciation, the Accelerated Reader program and sponsor engaging family nights, and fund special recognition to our students for a job well done.

Since our summer planning in time in July, I am so pleased to update you on the many enrichment and academic intervention opportunities we offer our Grizzlies. We have begun our Choir, Spanish enrichment, Read Naturally intervention program with a Harry Potter theme, and our afternoon 5th grade homework club to name just a few. We just held a very successful oratory competition and are looking forward to our Mad Science (STEM) and Creative Crafters E3 learning opportunities. There is certainly something for everyone!

Each student has access to the Accelerated Reading program daily and many opportunities to grab engaging literature off the library shelves to read and earn points toward personalized reading goals. I can hardly fathom the fact that 450 students passed their first six week personal reading goal at Grapeland. We reminded students in each class that we all put effort into reading, not just for the incentives but because reading teaches us about the world around us, something about ourselves and a bit about those we share our lives with each day.

Thank you once again for helping us fulfill our vision for your students at Grapeland, making our site “Every child’s favorite place to be!” Our school is full of caring and competent educators and support staff who love children and love teaching; the passion shows each day. Have a great fall season!

Let's Power up...Together!

Parents, teachers, support staff, and community members, each have an important role in encouraging and inspiring our children to become active, life-long learners equipped for the 21st century. To this end, it is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the necessary skills to become productive citizens both locally and globally. Our children deserve the very best support in this ever-changing world, and we all have the privilege to be part of making this happen. These are exciting times!

Thank you for supporting our PTA with your time and membership! I encourage you all to join and volunteer. There are many opportunities to get involved, both small and large, and your support is one of the best ways to serve our students directly. We have opportunities in the Library before school or on the playground assisting the parents with the Walking Program. Please call our office or our PTA for these opportunities or others at Grapeland.
