Greetings Families,
Wow, what a wonderful weeklong trip to Nature Bridge/Marin Headlands! The educational quality of the Nature Bridge Program is beyond compare.
I was so proud of our students in the way that they participated and made the whole trip very positive and rewarding for all. A special thank you goes out to our amazing chaperones as well!
Tomorrow is the official end of trimseter 2 and you will be seeing report cards come home on the 15th. Sixth grade Enrich! students will begin a new round of electives this Friday.
We still have a few field trips (see field trip link). I will be adding a trip to the Fish Hatchery on April 11th as soon as I am able to confirm the times.
Please keep an eye out for the Monday Messages to come home each week to help you keep track of upcoming dates such as Open House and the Spring Performance.
Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement as we continue on our learning journey!

Greetings Families,
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break. It is so great to be back in class and back in the swing of teaching and learning. I want to thank you all for the warm and generous holiday greetings and gifts. I felt very spoiled. I am very grateful for this group of kids and the opportunity to learn and grow with them this school year.
Keep an eye out for news of upcoming events and projects. I will be adding one more field trip to our list as soon as it has been confirmed. Unfortunately, I have had to cancel our Science field trip on the Schooner Seaward due to budgetary concerns so you will notice that it has been removed from the list.
Students will soon have the opportunity to sign up for the second round of Friday electives and there will some 6th grade spots on two different Science Olympiad teams in the near future.
Progress reports will be coming out in a few weeks and soon you will start to hear news about the parades, Spring Open House, and other Hillcrest happenings. Happy New year to you all!
Warmly,
Katrina Latham

Happy Fall! September in sixth grade was full of fun and learning. Westminster Woods was a fantastic bonding opportunity for our class. We have really become a tight-knit group who really knows how to work as a team!
Paleolithic Day was a great chance to put our learning to the test with some amazing hands-on activities. Thanks to all of the parents who came and worked with us on that day. Tamara from Paleotechnics did a phenomenal job of explaining the history and significance of the various activities.
This Friday is the end of our first round of Friday electives. The students have enjoyed and learned a lot from the ceramics, digital photography, and Glee electives so far. Next Trimester they will have a chance to make new choices.
Thanks to all of the parents for your help with filing, copying and driving/chaperoning!
Our next field trip is October 21 with a trip to the Tolay Fall Festival in Petaluma. Please let me know if you would like to come along as a driver/chaperone. I have added more trips to our list for this year so please be sure to check out the list and let me know which trips you are able to join us for.
I am looking forward to seeing you all next Monday for our parent-teacher conference. I will be doing a goal-setting activity in class with the students so you will be seeing some information about that before you come in for your conference.
Thanks so much for partnering with me to make this a fun and productive school year for this class of sixth graders!

Wow! The first eight days of sixth grade were full of fun and learning! What a wonderful class we have. They are all so enthusiastic and ready to learn.
Your child has met many new teachers and experienced a wide range of academic situations already. We worked together to get used to our daily schedule, divide up the classroom responsibilities, use the daily student planners, had our first enrichment classes and our Friday electives!
Thank you everyone for being so prompt with your "essay" about your child. Parent insight is so valuable as I get to know each student.
I have also received volunteer forms from many of you and will discuss a schedule for parent volunteers at our upcoming back-to-school night.
Some of this year's field trips have been scheduled and there will be a few more added to the list in the near future.
Our parent-teacher conference schedule is filling up already so be sure to take a look at the page on this web site that shows the available times and send me an email to sign up for your preferred time.
I have added information to the Spotlight on Curriculum page as well. Back-to-school night will be a good opportunity to learn more about the sixth grade curriculum and to see some of the amazing work that the students have already accomplished.
Thank you all so much for partnering with me for a fabulous school year.
