NewsFlash

Dear Students and Parents,
Here's what's happening this week in room 402:

Math Centers this Thursday: Parent volunteers please arrive to the classroom at 10:15 so I can go over the centers with you. The students will be at recess until 10:25.

Report cards will be going home of Wednesday afternoon in an envelope. Please return the envelope with your signature by Friday, November 20th.

Thanksgiving Break: November 23rd - November 27th. School resumes on Monday, November 20th.

Scholastic book orders will be coming home later in the week. These book orders will be for the months of November and December. Think of holiday shopping!

Spelling: Unit 11 review words. I will post on teacher web tomorrow morning.

Math: This week we will continue to learn our mulitiplication facts. The facts we will be learning this week are: 9's, 3's, 4's and possibly our 6's & 7's.
The facts we have learned so far are: 0's (any number times 0 is 0.) 1's, (any number times 1 is that number.) 2's (double the number you are multiplying by 2.) 10's (add a zero to the number you are multiplying 10 by.) 11's (repeat the number you are multiplying 11 by.) 5's (with the 5's we talked about picturing a clock in our heads, each number on the clock represents a fact. For example: 5 x 3 = 15, the 3 on a clock represents 15 minutes. or count on your fingers by 5's: 5, 10 15 etc.) **When you have time, for example when your driving in the car, quiz your child on these multiplication facts; remind them of the helpful hints!

Writing/Language Arts: This week we will be focusing on two different types of poems: cinquain and acrostic. We will be writing & publishing our Thanksgiving poems on Friday. Grammar: - We will be focusing on kinds of sentences: simple and compound. Cursive: The cursive letters this week are our "tow truck" letters. Tow truck letters don't end on the bottom line they end on the top line. The letters this week are: o, w, b & v. Vocabulary: We will continue learning our word of the day.

Reading: We are currently working on our Witches book review and we will be focusing on reading with expression.

Social Studies/Science: On Monday the students will be learning 12 new geography terms and they will be creating their own geography dictionaries. For example: hill, bay, valley. We will be working on and completing this assignment in class. There will also be a test on Friday on these 12 geography words. I will post the words on Monday night's homework.

Have a great week and a great Thanksgiving holiday! Thank you for all you do and your support!
Mrs. Selover
