What is the HOMEWORK POLICY?
Homework is assigned nightly Monday-Thursday and is due the following day,
unless otherwise noted. Late assignments will be accepted with penalty.
Occasionally, students will be assigned weekend homework. Reasons could be
due to short weeks from extra days off, completion of class projects,
studying for upcoming tests, or from incomplete classwork.
How LONG should HOMEWORK take?
The average student should spend an 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours on homework plus
some silent reading time. Students are different in how they use time, their
abilities, and their patience. If your child is spending a lot of
time on homework, please call or email me.
How can I CONTACT he TEACHER?
The best way to contact me is by EMAIL. I check it daily and will reply
typically within 24 hours. Please note that I typically check my email
before school, during lunch, and after school, so if you need to get a
message to your child please call the office at 855-5300. Alternate ways to
contact me: send a note or call the school office.
What is the policy for PARENT VOLUNTEERS OR VISITS?
Parents are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer. However, you must SIGN IN
at the school office and receive a sticker/badge for all visits, regardless
of the length of time you plan on being at the school.
How can I get my child's work if s/he is ABSENT from school?
Three options: (1) You may come in after school to pick it up. It will be
placed on the student's desk with instructions. (2) You may
request that the work be sent home with a sibling, classmate, (3) Your child
can get his/her work upon returning to school.
How long will my child have to make up MISSED WORK from an excused absence?
Your child will have as many days to make up the work as s/he was absent.
For example, if a student is absent two days, s/he has two days to make up
the work.
How is middle school MATH PLACEMENT determined?
In the month of May, 5th grade students will take a formal, district math
placement assessment to determine if s/he will be placed into Intro to 6th
grade math, Advanced 6th grade math, or Advanced 7th grade Pre-Algebra.
These assessments are scored by the district and teachers will be notified
of students placement into the Intro class or Advanced 6th grade. 7th grade
Pre-algebra placements are determined by an additional assessment, students
who scored high enough on the first assessment will be invited to take the
7th grade pre-algebra assessment. This assessment is also scored by the
district and teachers will be notified of the results. The district will
also mail a letter home regarding the results.
Can my child bring a BIRTHDAY TREAT?
Yes, your child me bring a treat. The best times to dropped off the treat
are before school or at the 10:10 recess. If necessary, the treat may be
dropped off just prior to the lunch recess at 12:30. There are 30 students.
