Message from the Principal

Dear Students and Families,

It is hard to believe that Friday, October 27th was officially the last day of 1st Trimester. For our 8th grade students, there are only two trimesters left of Middle School. For our 6th grade students, by now you should have a grasp on the expectations of middle school. Hawks, you are working hard and it shows. We were able to invite 591 7th- and 8th-grade students (out of 833 7th- and 8th-grade students) to our Renaissance Rally on 10/27. That is pretty impressive! Hawks, your teachers and administrators are very proud of you and all of your hard work. Keep it up!

On top of the exemplary academic performance that we're seeing, your attendance has been great too! Heritage Intermediate's attendance goal is 97%. In other words, we want to see 97% of our students here in their seats learning everyday, all day. During August, we met our goal with a 97.39% attendance rate. In September, we met our goal with a 97.66% attendance rate. I can't wait to see the attendance rates for October, which should be coming out any day now.

There are two safety concerns that I would like to bring to the attention of parents. First, parents, please remember to check in at the school office before entering the campus. I realize that often times there are open gates. We would ask, however, that you would still choose to check in at the office before entering campus. It is for the safety of all students and staff on campus. In addition, the office needs to know who is on campus so if there is an emergency, we know to look for you. The second safety concern is jaywalking in the parking lot after school. Parents please have conversations with your child or children about using crosswalks to get across the parking lot to the park. If they are simply going to your car, that is not a concern for us, so long as they look both ways and safely walk to your car. Many students have been jetting out into traffic to get across the parking lot to the park quicker. Administration and proctors have been stopping and speaking with students as they observe them jaywalking but they can't see every incident. For the safety of students, please have a conversation with your child or children about using crosswalks, even if it is out of the way.

Parents, thank you for all your hard work and support!
