Message from the Principal

Hello and welcome to Harbour View Elementary School. My name is Cindy Osterhout, the principal, and on behalf of our staff, it is a pleasure to greet you as partners in your child's educational experience. Harbour View is fortunate to have highly qualified professional and dedicated staff members who are truly committed to providing your child with the best education in a caring environment. Harbour View is dedicated to meeting all learning needs for students. We offer our students a full academic program that encompasses Preppie Kindergarten through Fifth grade. In addition, we have full-time professional educators who teach and enhance learning in general music, physical education, and a wonderful library technichian who supervises and implements our morning “Homework Club” daily 8:00 – 8:25 a.m. Parent support is vital to the growth of your children academically and otherwise. I strongly encourage you to help in any way whether through volunteering in the classroom to participating regularly in the PTA. Any contribution you can make is valuable and appreciated. Feel free to contact me any time if you have questions or are looking for opportunities to assist in your child's education.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Full Day Kindergarten I am excited to announce that we will be expanding our Kindergarten program to include Full Day Kindergarten for the 2009-2010 school year. If you are interested in this program for your incoming kindergartener please call our office at 714-846-6602 to be placed on an interest list.

Pelican Pledgers

Ms. LeMense’s 5th grade class is starting a community service project called “Pelicans Pledge.” To answer President Obama’s call to service, they have challenged all Harbour View students in Grades 1-5, and the entire staff to pledge at least 2 hours during the month of April to help our community become a better place. All participants will complete a pledge card, to be collected the last week of April. The total hours pledged will be announced at our May 1st Pelican Pride assembly and sent to President Obama!

Change a Life Program

The students in Ms. Orchloski’s 5th grade class sponsored a child through the Change a Life program in Uganda. On Friday, April 3rd, Ms. Jean Semler, founder of the program, visited Harbour View and eagerly met the students who sponsored one of her students. She and her film crew videotaped life in a “typical American school” to show to the students in Uganda. The students were honored that Ms. Semler would travel so far to meet them!
