BECAUSE all AR tests need to be completed by the end of the school day on Friday, November 13th!

FYI:
  • HELP! HELP! HELP!
We are running low on copy paper and of course, KLEENEX!  If you are at the store and see some and would like to donate it to Room 2 - that would be unbelievably AWESOME!  - YEAH!  We had 3 reams of white paper donated!  Thanks a bunch!  We can always use more!  And I know my students happiest day will be when I run out of copy paper and we get to just sit and look at each other all day long!  lol
  •  I try to upload grades every few days, so parents and students can view them on Webgrade.    your child has their 4 or 5 digit student ID number to log on.
  •  Junior high is a whole different system for the incoming 7th to get use to.  It may take a few weeks or even a full trimester for some of our 7th to understand the system and what questions they need to ask.  They need to sit up in their seats, focus on the material being presented and discussed, and not let their minds wander.  7th and 8th grade CORE moves quickly at Hart-Ransom.  A student can always call another student from class - and I encourage this, especially because when they are in high school and college they will be networking with other students on a nightly basis.  Good habits start early!
  • My door is open to the students almost every morning break from 10:33 to 10:50 and again at lunch from 12:40ish to 1:00ish.  If your child is not understanding something then he or she should use those opportunities to seek help.
  •  I have my students take out their planners each day and write down their assignments that I have written on the overhead and/or have posted on the whiteboards.  I have this same information written on the 7th side of the big whiteboard or on the 8th side of the big whiteboard.  I, also, have everything that we are doing that day in CORE written down on either the 7th or 8th grade smaller Today's Work whiteboards.  My writing is colored to help my students know what will be occurring in class.  Black writing = information they may need and with Mrs. B., Green writing = student assignments/homework, Red writing = tests or quizzes, and Purple writing = extra credit opportunities.  In junior high, there is a homework hotline number (523-1449) that parents or students may call to check on assignments/homework given in any of their classes each day and even special upcoming tests, quizzes, and/or projects.
  • I really cannot comment on the time your child  is spending at home to do his or her work, since every child has their own individual work and study habits.  Just be sure that your child is in a spot where he or she will be totally focused.  I have told them each and every day that they need to read over what we/they did in their interactive notebooks in CORE before going to sleep.  When they are sleeping their minds will process again what they have learned!!!  As you can tell, I try not to waste a minute of time!
    • My students have been told and shown how to restate a question and then how to finish answering it.  We have done examples together.
    • I always read the chapter sections with the class and even guide them at times by saying,  "Now that paragraph has the answer to GR1, etc."
    • Room 2 students are given everything they need to be successful during class, it is up to them to take advantage of it.

I hope this answers some of the questions you may be having.

     Always,
     Annie Barber
