Welcome to Mr. De Vore's Website!STAR testing begins Tuesday, May 1st and continues until May 8th Tueday. Fifth grade tests in math, English/language arts and science. It is important for students to be on time to school during this week or they will not be allowed to enter the classroom until the testing period is complete.
Math The class is almost completed with the textbook. We will continue to wrap up our work in geometry and start reviewing for the STAR test. We will be doubling up on some days in math and doing two lessons. One in the morning and one after lunch.Language Arts- Tuesday we start testing. Language Arts will be the first two days of testing. There will be no spelling words or vocabulary until after testing.Spelling wordsVocabulary words Social Studies Most of the social studies work for the next couple of weeks will focus around the State Reports. Rough Drafts for introductions were due April 27th. Next week the class will get a outline for the government page. Also, next week I will be staying after school and working with students in the computer lab on State Reports. Tuesdays and Thursdays 3-4 will be the days I start out using. If your child needs to work after school please write me a note that let's me know it is ok for them to stay and you will be picking them up at 4. Reading We just started reading Island of the Blue Dolphin, this book is worth 5 AR points. Reading logs will need to be turned in weekly, until AR goals have been met. Science We have one more test in Science before we finish the textbook lessons. Next week we will take this test and begin review of the 4th grade science standards that the students will be tested on starting Monday, May 7th and Tuesday, May 8th.
