8th Grade British Buddies

All my class must write a letter to their buddy by Monday about an event in American History. You can also write another more friendly one too, but the History one is for a grade.

Also, check out the website of their school: http://www.humphreyperkins.leics.sch.uk/

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

You must write your introductory letter by next Monday - the sooner you write it, the sooner you will get a response. Write it in a Word doc and email me (email address below):

rchandler@hartransom.org

Introductory Letter Format:

Name (don’t say last name)

Age

School – describe school: location, appearance, activities etc.

Where you live - tell a bit about Modesto and local areas (they may never have heard of it, so inform them that it is about 2 hours from San Francisco)

Write about your: interests / hobbies / sports / favorite teams / favorite foods / favorite music / favorite movies etc.

Family / pets etc.

Ask questions. What is it like at your school? Favorite subject? Favorite sports team? Favorite food? etc.

You get out of it what you put in!
--------------------------------------------------------------------

7th & 8th Graders - go to 'Documents' to find the review packets for ELA and Social Stuides. Also, try taking some of the practice test - the answer key is at the end of the test, so check your answers and understand any errors you made.

If you have any problems, or questions - just email me. Have a fun, safe, and productive spring break!
Mr. Chandler

Only 4 WEEKS until the CSTs! Keep up the hard work and we will celebrate once we have earned it :)

7th graders: WRITING TEST TOMORROW! Please study your review work from today, and make sure you are confident with all the figurative language terms.
You have worked so hard this trimester, tomorrow is the time to shine!

Great job to all 8th graders on their college mock interviews.
Thank you to all of our wonderful parents who helped. Room 2 represented in awesome fashion again, you guys rock!
------------------------------------------------------------
8th graders - if you would like a letter of recommendation, I will write one for the first three people who email me. Also, please use fake details for your applications, letters, and resumes - do not use your real address, phone number, social sec number etc.
----------------------------------------------------------
Are you smart enough to work at Google?
Here's a brain teaser: 1, 30, 17, 73, ____ what's the next number?
Clue - Ms. Gutierrez would find this more difficult than Mr. Chandler.
Clue #2 - you could change the 'one' for the number 'two', or the number 'ten', or the number 'six', and the sequence would still be the same.
-------------------------------------------------------------
Have a great Christmas with all your family & friends. See you in 2012 for more learning, hard work, and fun, fun, fun!
Mr. Chandler

Congratulations and thank you to Jake Bailey for being visitor number 500 to my website :)

8th grade news: BLAST reports are graded, check Pathways to find your score. Great job everyone, I enjoyed grading them all!!
"It wasn't actually that difficult and stressful!" If you agree with this comment then it means that you worked smart, and got organized... well done!

BLAST Reminders: 1. postage stamp must NOT include a picture of your person, but instead symbols or events that are significant to their life. You may use some key words, but not full sentences.
2. the picture and quote - I encouraged drawing it yourself (or tracing), and if you do this it will gain extra credit - going the extra mile - but if you are rushed for time, find an internet picture to use as is stated in the packet.
3. make sure you use correct formatting for quotes in your report - check with me if you have questions about this.
4. posters and presentations - we will discuss once reports are complete.

8th graders: final report is WEDNESDAY! Get everything done and dusted by tomorrow if you can... I will not accept any excuses about broken printers on Wednesday morning.
