· As a parent, do not become over concerned about the testing…this can make your child so nervous that they score lower than they could.
· Help your child see the test not as a threat but as an opportunity to show how well they can do.
· Make sure your child does not go to bed angry.
· Plan to stay away from problems before the test. Keep your child in a good mood.
· Consider talking about the test to reassure and encourage your child.
· Let your child know that you know the tests can be hard, but that taking them provides an opportunity to show how well he or she can do.
· Be positive and encouraging.
· Have your child get up early enough to avoid hurrying. Being on time for school is important.
· Have your child eat a good breakfast---but not a heavy one. Recess will not be until 10:30 during testing.
· Have your child dress in something he or she likes, that others like, and that is familiar. Being comfortable is important.
· Do not appear unconcerned about the testing program. While your child does not need to be afraid of tests, he/she needs to understand the importance of testing.
· Be positive when you send your child to school.
· Tell your child to do their best.
· Reward your child for trying hard on the test.
· Talk with your child about what was learned from the test. What he/she felt?
