COURSE OUTLINE

The purpose of this course is to introduce mathematical concepts appropriate
to the grade level. 
Subject matter of the course will parallel the California Mathematics Content
Standards. Throughout 
the school year, the following subjects will be covered:

- Algebraic expressions, solving equations and inequalities            
- Graphing of Functions
- Problem Solving
- Factors and introduction of negative exponents        
- Ratios and Statistics            
- Geometry including Pythagorean Theorem

ASSESSMENT AND GRADING:

Grades will consist of the following, and will be based on a point scale.

Homework (3 points nightly); Homework Quizzes (15 points every 5 homeworks)
Tests (100 points)
Quizzes (20-25 points)
Participation/Work Habits Grade *
* Active participation in the classroom is an essential part of learning. This
includes class discussions 
and cooperative efforts.

HOMEWORK:

Homework will be assigned four to five nights per week. Each assignment will
be worth a maximum of 3 points and is due at the beginning of class. It will
be checked and corrected each day and filed for a study tool. If a student is
absent, he or she will have an appropriate amount of time to turn in 
the assignment(s). 

**Students must show ALL of their work ALL of the time to receive full credit.

SUPPLIES:

One 2-inch 3 ring binder with 6 dividers
paper & graph paper
2 mechanical pencils with lead
Erasers
2 red pens for in-class correcting of homework
1 ruler (inches/cm)

GRADING SCALE:

This is the standard grading scale used at Hermosa Valley School.

A 92-100                         C 72-77
A-90-91                          C- 70-71
B+ 88-89                         D+ 68-69
B 82-87                           D 62-67
B- 80-81                         D- 60-61
C+ 78-79                        F 59 and below

CLASSROOM RULES:

These rules are designed to allow each and every student the opportunity to
maximize their learning 
experience.

- Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
- Follow the rules and guidelines for the classroom at all times.
- Complete homework and class work on time.
- Be respectful of those working around you.
