Math 6 Homework

Tuesday and Wednesday, October 7-8, 2008

Tonight's homework:  Lesson 2:2 MULTIPLYING WHOLE NUMBERS AND DECIMALS, pp.
52-54, problems #6-26.  

Remember to make sure that the decimal places are correct.

I will not be at school on Wednesday due to a family illness.  Students will
be given an Accelerated Math assignment to be completed in class.  There will
be no homework over the long weekend.

Lesson 2:1  MULTIPLICATION PROPERTIES, pp. 50-51, problems #7-23

If you are not sure about your multiplication tables, now is the time to learn
them.  Remember that when you are doing tonight's problems, you are looking at
the different properties of multiplication to solve the problems.  You will
need to show your work.

Lesson 1:13  USING DATA FROM GRAPHS, pp. 32-33, problems #1-7

Remember that bar graphs are used to show quantities (amounts).  They can be
vertical or horizontal.  A double-bar graph can show two sets of data.

Lesson 1:12  SOLVING ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION EQUATIONS, pp. 30-31, problems
#6-28.

Go back over the examples on p. 30.  Remember, if you subtract from one side
of the equation, you must subtract from the other side.  If you add to one
side, add to the other.  Always check your answers to see if your solution
makes the equation a true statement.

WE WILL BE HAVING A CHAPTER TEST ON FRIDAY.

Remember PEMDAS (Parentheses, exponents, multiply and divide left to right,
add and subtract left to right)

WHEN MULTIPLICATION OR DIVISION OCCURS WITH ADDITION OR SUBTRACTION, THE
MULTIPLICATION OR DIVISION SHOULD BE PERFORMED FIRST IN ORDER FROM LEFT TO RIGHT.

EVERYONE needs to make sure that they have completed the math corrections for
the Accelerated Math exercise scored today.

HOORAY, we have successfully made it through the first full week of school!  I
am so impressed by all of my students.  They are well prepared and very
responsible.

I will do my best to not assign homework over the weekends.  What this means
is that students will work hard during the week.  Even so, there will be
assignments that carry over into the following week now and then.

THIS WEEKEND, HOWEVER, THERE IS NO HOMEWORK.  Enjoy your two days of relaxation.

Math Lesson 1:4  ADDITION PROPERTIES pp. 10-11, Problems # 6-23

Students will also need to create a mini-poster that describes the properties
of addition, the break-apart strategy, and the compensation strategy.  These
are all explained on p. 10 of the textbook.  Color and creativity count!

REMEMBER to make sure that you have set your math page up correctly and that
you show all work where appropriate.

EACH NIGHT, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR CORRECTING ANY ERRORS ON YOUR MATH
HOMEWORK.  THERE WILL BE A NOTEBOOK CHECK ALONG THE WAY.
