2.         CLASS MEETING TIME & PLACE:

Class will be held every Monday beginning January 5, 2009 and ending May 28, 2008.  Class meets in the Cyclone Center at Cypress School of the Arts from 4:30 PM to 9:00 PM.  Group/Study time is from 4:00 PM to 4:30 PM.  The address above can be Map-Quested (www.mapquest.com) for specific directions.  Should a class meeting need to be missed due to a holiday, a make-up session will be scheduled.  In addition to the classroom (19 Monday Meetings (95 Hours)/5 Thursday Meetings (25 Hours) = 120 Classroom Hours Minimum plus additional as needed), students are required to complete a total of 120 hours in the community classroom (externship) working at a pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee.  This totals/exceeds the 240 hours as required by the Board of Pharmacy.

 

3.         PREREQUISITE:                     No prerequisite exists to take this course.  You must have your

High School diploma or GED in order to obtain your pharmacy technician license from the California State Board of Pharmacy (4202 B&PC).

5.         COURSE DESCRIPTION:         To instruct present and future pharmacy personnel in basic

pharmacy theories and skills for the purpose of enhancing the safety and well being of the public and obtaining a pharmacy technician license in the state of California.  Students should have a working knowledge of basic algebra and math formulas in order to be successful in this class.  Completion of this course does not automatically assure licensure.  Cost of the optional National Certification Exam and the pharmacy technician license/LiveScan fingerprinting is not included with this course.

7.         EVALUATION PROCEDURES: There will be a quiz or learning validation exercise each class    period.  These quizzes/learning validation exercises will be worth 20% of your overall grade.  There will be no make-up exams.  In addition to your course grade, you will receive an evaluation grade given by your externship supervisor.  You may not receive your pharmacy technician license through this course if you receive a negative/poor externship review (regardless of class grade received).  A minimum overall grade of 80% is required in order for the instructor to sign your pharmacy technician license application which is required by the State Board of Pharmacy indicating you have successfully completed this course and state’s requirements.  Assignments are based on point value with each assignment varying in points based on the total points possible for that particular assignment.  The following is how your final grade will be decided:

Special Remarks:

 

1.              Class Participation: Given the professional nature of this course, students are expected to participate in discussions, in-class activities, and readings.  The instructor reserves the right to assign point values to these respective activities.

 

2.              Attendance: ROP class policy states that students may be dropped from the course when they miss two (2) class sessions. 

 

3.              Tardy Policy:  A student who is late to two class sessions (enters the classroom after the instructor has started class) will be charged with one full absence unless prior arrangements or prior approval has been given (by the instructor) or the student provides a valid reason.

 

4.              Assignments/Missed Exams: It is your responsibility, whether present or absent, to obtain all material presented in class and to complete all course assignments by their respective due dates.  If prior arrangements have been made or extenuating circumstances exist, makeup of tests may be allowed.  Late homework will be penalized by the reduction in points based on how late the homework is turned in.  Make up of quizzes/learning validation exercises is to be at the instructor’s discretion. 

 

5.              Dropping the Course:  Notify the instructor as soon as possible should you wish to drop or if you will be dropping.  This will allow the instructor to fill your slot with a student on the waiting list should you drop early enough.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ESLRs

What are ESLRs?  According to Leslie Fausett, Chief Deputy Superintendent for Policy and Programs, California Department of Education, ESLRs define the global outcomes, across the curriculum, that are set for students (e.g., to read, write, and compute at world-class levels; to be able to think analytically and creatively in solving problems; to be able to reason inductively and deductively).  ESLRs are used to achieve a complete, comprehensive system.
