DAILY RULES AND PROCEDURES FOR BAND STUDENTS

The following is the guideline to a successful rehearsal. These guidelines should be considered rules.

·      Enter the rehearsal hall in a quiet, courteous, and orderly manner.

·      Quickly get your instrument and music and take your seat.

·      A student will be considered tardy if they are not in their seat, ready to rehearse at the end of the passing period.

·      Students will check the chalkboard for the agenda and put their method books and music in the order of the agenda.

·      Concert attention will be observed when the director steps on the podium and no further talking will be permitted.

·      Students will not play instruments without permission.

·      Students will not play other student's instruments. This includes percussion and district owned instruments.

·      Band members should have the following for every rehearsal:

o      INSTRUMENT with the necessary accessories.

o      ALL MUSIC

o      PENCIL

·      All schoolbooks, horn cases, and equipment not needed for the rehearsal should be left in the instrument storage shelf or bookshelves.

·      Good posture is of great importance at all times.

·      Music stands are for music. Do not lean on them.

·      If it becomes necessary to take your instrument to a repair shop, please remember to bring a note from home, your mouthpiece and music. There is always a strong possibility that we might provide a temporary instrument.

·      When class is over, quietly remain in your seat until you are dismissed. The Teacher will dismiss the rehearsal, not the bell!

·      The band directors will check the horn and book slots daily to make sure every one has taken their instrument and music home to practice. It is, of course, impossible to practice at home if your instrument is sitting in the band hall overnight. THERE SHOULD NEVER BE A CIRCUMSTANCE WHERE YOUR INSTRUMENT SPENDS THE NIGHT IN THE BAND ROOM OR IN YOUR CLASSROOM!

Students who do not bring their instruments to school will have points deducted from their participation grade, lose chair ranking, and will endanger their band ranking. They will sign the “I Forgot My” log and do a written assignment during class.  There will be no teacher reminder of this rule.

After School Rehearsal Procedures

·      After-school Rehearsals:  All after-school rehearsals are from 2:45-4:30 or later.  These extra rehearsals may be scheduled as needed before concerts, and are planned well in advance.  The attendance policy will be enforced in the event a student misses an after-school rehearsal.  These rehearsals will be scheduled as needed.  Students will be notified two weeks in advance of an upcoming rehearsal.

SHOW CHOIR

Show Choir is a performance group which combines singing and dancing.  Students will learn to read and write music, and therefore need their music folder and pencil everyday.  Students will be responsible for practicing their music at home and turning in weekly practice logs, signed by a parent.  Students in this ensemble need to be committed to the performance group.  Everyone in the group relies on each individual, so everyone needs to do their job.  This includes good attendance both in school and at rehearsals and performances outside the school day.
