Google Docs for Education
Every student in grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 has an account with a special "closed," Holy Family School-only Google Docs account. This will help with the seamless transition between in-class and homework. Since Google Docs is a web-based tool, students can access their accounts from any computer with an internet connection. Begin at
www.docs.google.com. Your login is
yourfirstname.yourlastname@hfsjtech.org. Password information will be discussed in class.
Online tutorials for using Google Apps can be found

7th and 8th GRADE STUDENTS: You can log into your
Citrix account from home! This is the same Windows7 desktop you see when using the school netbooks in class. You'll have access to your school apps and docs--provided you've saved your work appropriately. Use this link:

BYOD - 7th and 8th grade students are invited to BYOD--Bring Your Own Device--to school. We believe this is yet another way to provide a seamless school/home work environment. Please print and review the BYOD agreement

As more teachers are requiring computer-generated work, it's become vitally important for students and parents to familiarize themselves with the best ways to transfer files between school and home. In addition to the use of Citrix and Google Docs, I recommend a small investment in a 1G USB drive for all students in grades 5th and above. This is an economical and convenient way to transport files to and fro.
Additionally, students should be familiar with the applications and versions of those applications on their home computers. It helps a great deal to assimilate the home-school work transfer.
Web Filtering @ Home Holy Family School does its best to protect students from inappropriate content while using the network and internet on campus. Do you do the same at home? An excellent, FREE resource for you to use is called K9 Web Protection from Blue Coat. Read about it and download
