Announcements

STAYING HEALTHY:
Our class is in desperate need of more antibacterial soap, hand sanitizer and
wipes. Please make sure the wipes are only antibacterial and do not contain
any bleach products. Thank you for helping our class stay healthy during this
flu season!

DONATING COMPUTERS:
Do you have an old computer that is not being used? Consider donating it. Our
class would love to have it to run our educational programs!

A FEW PROCEDURES:
Please send your child to school each day with a labeled backpack, a labeled
snack (separate from their lunch), a labeled lunch box and jacket/sweater. If
you would like your child to purchase a school lunch, please make a check to
Hope School and take it directly to the cafeteria to be deposited in your
child's lunch account.
Recess/Lunch Times:
Our recess is scheduled for 10:05 until 10:25 and lunch time is 11:50 until
12:35. Please make sure your child has a healthy snack to hold them over
until lunch time.
Morning:
The gates will open at 7:45 am. Please walk your child to the blacktop
playground with their backpacks and any other belongings. Please do not bring
your child directly to the classroom as I am usually at morning duty. Our
room number 7 will be written on the blacktop. Please have your student line
up there. When the bell rings at 7:55, I will meet you. This will be our
morning procedure for the entire year.

VOLUNTEERING:
Thank you to all who have signed up to volunteer in the classroom, from home
and for class projects. I have set up a volunteer schedule with specific
dates and times for each person. Please make sure you are on time and able
to make each date you have been committed to. The students and I both
appreciate your support and miss you when you are absent.

READING COUNTS:
Our class will be participating in the Reading Counts program starting the
first week in October. Please check the Reading Counts list of titles on
Hope's website to see if your child's book is listed. If the title is listed,
write it down along with the author and have your child bring it to school to
take the test. Remember, a score of 70% or above is necessary to pass the
test. Please make sure your child understands the story well before they
attempt the test. The designated times for Reading Counts tests will depend
on our computer lab schedule for this year. Thank you for your participation!

LEVELED READING BOOKS:
Each student should be reading age and level appropriate books for 20
minutes every night with an adult. If you are struggling to find leveled
readers for your child, try the "I Can Read!" series, "Frog and Toad"
series, "Amelia Bedelia" series or "Little Bear" series. These books can be
purchased online or at common book stores such as Barnes and Noble. Spend
quality time and make lasting memories- read with your child each day!

WEB LINKS:
Parents, check out the links page for fun activities for your child. I
suggest starfall.com to increase reading skills. Have fun!

The following awards will be given at the last Friday morning assembly for

MILEAGE CLUB NEWS: Mileage club has been scheduled for each Friday morning
from 7:45-8:00. Your child has received a mileage card to track the number of
laps they run. Please help them keep track of their mileage card. Some
students choose to keep them in their desks and others choose to put the
cards in their backpacks. With the completion of the first 20 laps (which is
5 miles) they will receive a necklace. Please help your child be responsible
for their necklace as they will only be able to receive 1 for the entire
year. No replacement necklaces will be given. For every 20 laps/5 miles,
your child will receive a "toe token"/small foot to put on their necklace.
The completion of every 10 miles will result in an award by Mr. Tubbs at the
Friday morning assembly. We will run 2 laps each day after recess that will
be counted on a "Class Card". I have designated Tuesday afternoon and Friday
afternoon to track mileage for each student and give out toe tokens.
They will be receiving their necklaces, feet and new cards during this time.
Please make sure that your child arrives to school at 7:45 on the designated
mornings to participate in the Mileage Club program.
Remember... Healthy Bodies = Healthy Minds!
