Hi - Thank you for viewing my web page! My name is Jenny Latona and I will
teach fourth and fifth grade at Howell Mountain this year. This 2012-2013
school year will be my fourteenth year teaching! I began teaching in Ohio
where I taught fourth and sixth grades for five years before moving back to
California. While I lived in Ohio, I received a Bachelor's degree in
Elementary Education and Communication Disorders as well as a Master's degree
in Elementary Education. Since then I have returned to school once again and
now have an Administrative Certificate from Sonoma State.
I have been teaching at Howell Mountain Elementary School for a total of eight
years. I am thrilled to be working at such a warm and welcoming place. I
enjoy the small school atmosphere because I feel like I can really get to
know all of the students, parents and staff members on a personal level.
Howell Mountain is a supportive place and I look forward to teaching another
year with the wonderful families 'up on the hill'.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and have been to many places throughout
the U.S. as well as outside of the country. I also enjoy staying fit by
occasionally competing in running and swimming races as well as triathlons.
I also like to read whenever I can find the time! I was married last November
and many students and parents still refer to me as "Ms. Casciani". It takes a
while to get used to such a big change, but I am still the same person and
like hearing both names!
I am passionate about teaching and like the challenge of finding ways to help
every child to succeed. I believe fourth and fifth grades are important
stepping stones for junior high and I work hard to teach the students to
become more responsible and organized. One of the most exciting times during
the fourth and fifth grade years are the overnight field trips to Fort Ross
and Old Oak Ranch. The students, parents and myself look forward to this trip
each year.
My door is always open to listen. I want to help create the best learning
environment for each child in my classroom and believe that this can happen
best through open communication and consistent communication between myself,
the student and the parents. Please stop in and say hello if you haven't
done so already.
I believe all students have the right to be in a classroom where they feel
respected and safe. It is important to me that students feel valued in class
and are comfortable asking for help and asking questions. With this
established, I expect students to work hard in class and to do their best
work. As a result, maximum learning can take place and the student will feel
success in the classroom. Through the ongoing communication and support
between student, teacher and parent I feel there will be no obstacles we
cannot overcome.
