We had a wonderful holiday party today. Thank you to the families who sent the delicious refreshments!
Congratulations to this month's STAR Student, Abigail Tupas. Abigail is recognized for demonstrating the STAR characteristic: Choose to have a positive attitude. Our Academic Achievement student is Cameron Azevedo. Cameron is recognized for writing an excellent heritage essay. Compliments to both of you!
The Ehrhardt Eagles basketball teams have been selected, and league play begins in January. Three students from our class were named to the girls' team: Kelsey Brown, Mazzie Davies, and Dominique Frazier. Congratulations, girls, and here's to a winning season!
I have shown the class one of my favorite websites: www.freerice.com It is sponsored by the United Nations and a network of charitable organizations that are raising money to feed children in underdeveloped nations. The cool thing about it is that anyone can help with this effort by going to the website and answering school subject questions. For every correct answer, the player earns 10 grains of rice for a child somewhere in the world. The questions are written at many different levels and in subjects such as math, vocabulary, and grammar, so students are reinforcing their own learning while they help others. Ask your child about "free rice" and have her/him show you the website. You will soon be hooked!!
Free Rice Update: The students have been given a Free Rice record sheet to keep track of the rice they earn. They can visit the website at school or at home, but they must have a teacher or parent signature to verify their score. We are beginning some friendly competition among the 5th & 6th grade classes, so all of the students are encouraged to earn as much rice as possible. The math, vocabulary, & grammar subjects provide great extra practice, so this would be a perfect off-track activity.
