Lesson plan for grades 5-6  

1. Seat class in West Wing. 

2. Booktalk books on display (fiction XYZ for gr, 6, fiction N for 
gr.5

        Mention books you read and liked, genres, characters, 
settings.

        Ask them which books they have read and their recommendations.

3. Explain that today they will concentrate on finishing three drafts 
for the 
email account.  Put on board what is below, and explain that these 
folders 
are standard on gaggle.
      
      FOLDERS                      

         
         DELETED     Messages they “erased”.  


         DRAFTS      Messages by them ready to send. Need 3 for 
credit.


         INBOX       New messages from other people.  


         SENT        Messages they have sent.  Need 5 for full 
credit. 

           
4. Tell them to write about the suggested topics with a topic 
sentence and 
three examples—my favorite food, my school, my hobbies, etc.  Or, 
they may 
bring their open house papers, copy them and paste them as drafts in 
their 
draft folder.  Wonderful!

5. If they are done, can they create a new folder where they may 
store epal 
letters from other places?   Go to OPTIONS: CREATE FOLDER!

6. What is their most important job?  CHECK OUT BOOKS!!!!

7. What else are they doing? 

                    WRITING EMAIL DRAFTS OR ANSWERING EMAIL OR 
READING!
