LIBRARY PRACTICE 

Welcome to Library Practice!  This is an elective class that offers work experience.  The tasks 
students do in the library at Muir are essential to the operation of the facility, and students 
who learn procedures and discipline are prepared to work in other libraries and institutions.  
All students are expected to sign in daily and to record their work activity. Students may read 
or do homework if daily assigned work is completed.

Students are graded according to the standards below:


*Follow procedures for processing and circulating library media materials as directed by library 
media teacher and library technician. This includes shelving materials accurately. 	(70% of 
total grade)

Student works daily for an average of at least forty minutes with excellent accuracy	
       A- Student is on task daily; works with accuracy    	
       C- Student works but makes mistakes

*Demonstrate the ability to locate information through the use of standard reference materials 
as well as electronic resources. (20% of total grade)

       A- Student completes a web project	
       B- Student works on a web project 
       C- Student does not complete written assignments, but works during class time.

*Assist other students in locating and using library media materials, 
equipment, and information retrieval systems. (10% of total grade)	

        A-Student assists patrons as directed.	
        B-Student assists patrons occasionally.	
        C-Student does not assist patrons, but learns procedures.	
        D-Student interrupts patrons—U in citizenship 

ASSIGNMENTS: A grade-90% B grade-80% C grade-70% D grade-60%


We appreciate the dedication of our library workers.  We will notify parents of students who are 
receiving less than a C grade.
