September 2004
Welcome to 2004-2005 in the John Muir School Library. Students will find new
fiction and nonfiction books, new technology, and new projects for all grade
levels. The library continues to support classroom learning in all areas.
Please return your library responsibility forms as soon as possible so that
you may take advantage of the many opportunities at Muir Library.
Passwords for databases
SIRS database offers reliable information for all subjects and ages. The ID
is CAxxxx, and the password is 9xxxx. See Anne for passwords; these may not
be printed online.
E-pal matches continue
Students of all ages continue to receive email from schools around the world.
Schools in South Africa, Tahiti, Mexico, and Australia would like to continue
to write to existing e-pals. Schools in Uzbekistan and the Gambia and Mexico
will be joining us for science and other classroom collaborative projects.
We have students who are writing in Spanish and French as well as English
speaking e-pals. Students who want e-pals may write a_lambert@gaggle.net to
request matches.
Visitor from Uzbekistan
Muir students participated in an online forum with students from Alisher
Navoi Secondary School in Termez, Uzbekistan in March and April of 2004. Now,
the English teacher from that school will visit Muir in an exchange paid for
by the U.S. government. Azizbek Rahkmanov will be at Muir School from October
30-Nov. 6.
Hours
Muir Library is open to individual students, teachers, and community from
8:30 AM until 4:50 PM daily. Class visits are by appointment with Anne.
Privileges Secondary students may check out books for two weeks; elementary
students check out books for one week. Students in fifth grade or higher may
have five books at a time. Students in grades K-4 take from 1-4 books
