Senior Projects

Welcome to Muir Senior AVID

All seniors at Muir take Senior AVID.  In this class students

1. apply for colleges and prepare for careers,

2. receive on-campus visitors including counselors,

3. take trips to colleges,

4. participate in real-life internships and experiences,

5. complete computer literacy requirements necessary for graduation,

6. research a topic of personal interest for the senior paper due in March,

7. complete a website based on that research,

8. prepare a PowerPoint for the senior exhibition,

9. study to earn good grades in all classes, and

10. prepare a senior exhibition for May.

What is AVID?

Advancement Via Individual Determination targets students — B, C, and even D students — who have the desire to go to do well and the willingness to work hard.  These are students who are capable of completing rigorous curriculum but are falling short of their potential.   Typically, they will be the first in their families to attend college, and many are from low-income or minority families.  AVID pulls these students out of their unchallenging courses and puts them on the college track: acceleration instead of remediation.
