1st & Most Important- Is your current address on file with the school? If not-please do so immediately-as your address and the date the address is submitted WILL effect your Jr. High placement!
Next, I just wanted to let everyone know that Open Enrollment has started for the middle and high schools. This means that IF you do NOT want your child to go to your home school (which is based on the address currently on file with the district), then you are able to apply to one of 7 other schools. The Jr. High schools you can choose from are Eddy, Harris, Jackman, Kerr, Pinkerton, Rutter, and Smedberg. Each of those schools should be holding an information night in the next week or two. Please contact those schools for information on the dates. Franklin HS and Toby Johnson MS are not accepting applications for Open Enrollment. If you want your child to go to your appointed area school-you need to do NOTHING- example-If you live in Toby's attendance area & you are already slotted for Toby, then your child will automatically be enrolled in Toby, and if you live in Eddy's area & you are already slotted for Eddy, then your child will automatically be enrolled in Eddy.
If you would like to apply to one of the schools offering open enrollment- Here is the link for the application - http://www.egusd.net/news/spotlight/index.cfm
All applications are due by 5PM on February 11th. If you have questions about the Open Enrollment process, there are two meetings scheduled 7-8:30PM-January 28 (at Laguna Creek High School) & February 4 (at Florin High School).
Lastly, Sims office staff can ONLY check your address, the school you are currently slotted to attend, and change your address. I actually told each student which school they are currently slotted to attend. Feel free to ask them what I told them-or even shoot me an email. Should you have any other questions-please direct them to the specific Jr. High. That way you are sure to get the most accurate answers to each Jr. High's policies, procedures, and information.
I know how confusing and overwhelming this process can be. Please know that the two schools which most of our students are slotted for, Eddy & Toby, are great schools. I always have students and parents from the previous year tell me how much they like where their child ended up going & that they wish there wasn't so much unnecessary drama-as the things they "heard" really weren't what they ended up experiencing. So- Just BREATHE in and out-It's all good! If YOU have questions/concerns-go to an information meeting at that school and see for yourself!
And Yes- I am in the same boat-so I GET IT!
