Latest & Greatest

I have spent time planning out our 2nd trimester, and let me tell you now- there is a lot to do and little time to do it.  We will be dancing with Mrs. Goodnow, making models of the Earth and some volcanoes, going on a space mission to Mars, reading Where the Red Fern Grows(tell older brothers & sisters no spoiling it!), lots of writing for country reports, master "how to read to learn" using expository texts, dive into learning about Mesopotamia, Kush, & Early Egypt, and let us not forget MATH-or should I say pre-algebra!!! Yeah! And all of this with 5 minimum days, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving & Christmas Breaks, and MLK Day! Please check out the calendar.

Please do all that you can to make sure your child does not miss any school-much of our work will be done in groups/class-thus making it up is more difficult.  I know the flu and H1N1 are running rampant through our neighborhoods.  Anyone with a fever needs to stay home.  I will remind students about letting me know if they aren't feeling great-to take precautions in the classroom.  We are set with sanitizer and wipes for now-I will let you know if we start to run low.  Students will clean their desks regularly!  Let's hope that we can be the class to have absolutely no one with the flu/H1N1 these next few months. I know my son and I hope to stay well this winter.  We already got both shots.  I hope your kids have too-we are in such close quarters in the classroom.  I promise to do my best.

As always-IF your child is staying home from school...shoot me an email ASAP and I will get one back as quickly as I can with some work they can do at home in an effort to not fall far behind. I find this method far more successful than someone gathering all work at the end of the school day. Frequently, students are able to complete many of the assignments in between naps-thus leaving  their evening time for dinner and a long night's sleep.  This is all possible when your child is keeping their binders organized and with them at all times(much like jr. high).

As always-Students are expected to be on-time and on-task at school.  The better they are at this-the less work they bring home. So make sure they-
Eat Right
Stay focused
Sleep 8-10 hours/day
& Choose to be happy!

I look forward to a wonderful second trimester.
