Do you assign homework every night?
Generally speaking, I do not assign homework. We work on
assignments in
class so that I can help those students having difficulty with
the concepts
and applications. However, any unfinished work automatically
becomes
homework at the end of the day. On occasion, I will assign
homework that
students will have no class time to work on.
The homework link will take you to the calendar/list of all
assignments
given during class each day of the week. Remember, we list
assignments by
due date and not on the date they were assigned; therefore,
something
assigned on a Monday will be due on Tuesday, so look for it to be
listed
under Tuesday.
Do you assign work on weekends?
I want my time to relax and children need the same! I do not
assign
homework on the weekends...but occasionally students will be
asked to work
on a special project or complete unfinished work as necessary.
Do you accept late work?
District policy states that a teacher is not required to accept
late work
except in a situation where a student has been on an excused
absence. In
this case, a student is allowed as many days to make up the
missing work as
s/he was absent. Having stated this, I have as a personal
policy, which
allows students to make up late work for up to 75% credit. I
reserve the
right to change or cancel this personal policy at any time.
May I visit your classroom to observe?
Please do. Parents/guardians are always welcome-no need to make
an
appointment. Simply drop by the office, sign-in, and come on
down! Please
keep in mind that during instructional time, I might not have an
opportunity
to conference with you or answer questions you might have.
May I bring cup cakes to the class to celebrate my child's birthday?
Absolutely!
What is your e-mail address?
My e-mail address is: kmansfie@egusd.net
You may also use the email link at the top of this page.
When do Progress Reports come out?
District policy instructs teachers to send out progress reports
one time
during the trimester. However, I send reports home every track
change
during the trimester. Expect them to be sent home a day or two
before track
change day. You'll be asked to review the information, sign, and
return the
report the next day. I retain these original copies for my
records; Should
you like a copy of the report, I'll be happy to accomodate your
request.
Will students be going on fieldtrips?
We love to take fieldtrips! Unfortunately current gas prices are
causing
major increases in bussing costs. We are currently discussing 3
possible
field trips for this year. We are scheduled to take our yearly
trip to Mission Springs.
Can I chaperone a field trip?
Yes...we look forward to having parents/guardians/grandparents
chaperone.
Keep an eye out for an announcement (see the announcement link)
that we are
taking written requests to chaperone. The announcement usually
comes out 3-
4 weeks before the fieldtrip. Keep in mind that I need a written
request to
chaperone (requests are only accepted after the official
announcement is
posted), you may write a note or email me. I take requests in
order, based
on date and time of receipt of them, and add that person's name
to the
chaperone list--first come, first served--until all spots are
filled. In
the announcement the number of chaperones spots will be indicated.
Should a chaperone drop out due to a conflict, I will contact the
next
person on the list to take their place.
What is the best way to contact you, Mr. Mansfield?
Email me! I check my emails regularly and respond as soon as I
recieve the
correspondence. However, you can also send a written note to
school with
your child-it's important for me to have a written copy of our
communications so that I have a written reminder that I have to
follow up
with you. Of course you may always call the office to leave a
message for
me-however, sometimes with all the paperwork that gets placed in
my mailbox,
I don't always see a phone message right away! And to be frank,
sometimes
the slips of paper get caught up in other paperwork and I don't
see the
message for days. Emails will get the quickest response.
What the heck is CLAS?
CLAS stands for Comprehension Language Arts Skills. These are a
series of
worksheets that accompany the reading series and give students
language and
grammar skills practice.
What is DOL?
DOL stands for Daily Oral Language. Each day students copy 2
sentences that
are filled with grammar errors. Students are challenged to edit
these
mistakes independently. Later, as a whole group, we identify
these errors
and students are asked to explain the grammar rule that governs
these
corrections.
What is GEO?
GEO stands for geography. Each day, students will be challenged
to use various resources to answer general geography questions.
This program is designed to help students learn about our world's
geography in a non-threatening way while practicing research
skills.
How can I assist you in class, Mr. Mansfield?
I can really use someone to come in and help with the Reading
assessments...these tests are quite long and require carefull
attention. If you are available Fridays, after 11 or Monday
mornings, I could use your help.
Also, I could use help inputting data into my grade program. The
task is not difficult at all; anyone can master the process in
one sit-down session. I will train any adult to help with this.
